This morning, Silvermist was nearly black and bathing in the waterfall (yes, I mean sitting directly in the downpour of the water, not the pool) She's always been fond of the water fall, she kind of has it staked out as her spot in the viv. When I got home from work though, she looked odd. She was very bloated, and not on her waterfall spot, but on a leaf in the back of the viv. Is it possible she just had too much hydration? She ate 3 small crickets tonight no problem, so I at least know that she is still eating.
In the first pic, Silvermist is on the right, and that's pretty much how she always looks, the coloring, the size/shape is normal for her. It's how she looked when I left for work this morning except her coloring was almost black.
Second pic is how she has been all night, resting on the leaf, bloated looking and unmoving.
I felt her belly to make sure there wasn't any impaction going on there, with 4 tree frogs I have poop all over my viv, so it's not something that I specifically see who does what. There were no hard spots, all very soft and squishy.

Welcome to the world of why your frog looks fat :-) Yes, soakings really bloats them up since they absorb the water through their skin. You will find this often and be amazed that one day the frog is slim average and then a few hours later it is so fat it looks like it can't walk.
Here is a good example of my smallest when I first questioned this.... I could roll him down a hill in this condition :-) and I thought he ate to much.

LOL That is awesome!! I'm glad to know she is fine. I wasn't sure if they could hydrate to the point of bloated exhaustion. I guess she's going to have to avoid the waterfall for a day or two!

Apparently she is trying to do the same thing again this morning. She looks normal again, but has been sitting in the waterfall all morning again lol.

LOL....Good to know! Thanks Don!
A few of my frogs look like Rolly Pollys!

My PCFs do the same thing sometimes-soak in their water dish for a few hours and then somehow manage to get out and do their Buddha impression for a couple of days. As long as she is eating and pooping, I am sure she is good. Your frogs look very chubby and happy, which is exactly how they should look!![]()
Thank you! Willow came to me a very chubby frog, but the others needed work. Paddy especially, she was so skinny and sick looking when I got her. She's a beautiful frog now!
I won't freak out anymore over suddenly fat frogs LOL

It's always good to ask and just be sure. Sometimes, bloating is a sign of bad things to come, and when you love the little ones, it's very easy to worry. Being able to share it on the Forum is a great help, and we have all done it. Sometimes a dozen times (just ask anyone about me and my Poe the Bullfrog questions!!). But honestly, Silvermist looks amazing...nice little pot belly!! LOL
