So, I've heard that the dwarf pyxie frog usually labeled as P. Edulis is actually not a true Edulis, but a frog called a Tanzanian bullfrog. Is this true? If so, is the fake Edulis still a member of the genus Pyxicephalus?

You are correct. I can't remember if that frog is in the Pyxicephalus genus, but I want to say no as of current taxonomy.

I don't know-I think the fake Edulis does look like a Pyxicephalus, except with slightly smoother skin and a slightly more blobby appearance. What do you mean by "current taxonomy?"

John, I have to disagree. TFW, I have to say yes. It is still in the Pyxicephalus geneus. Right now, there seems to be a real mess in the Pyxi geneus identification. The other group John was thinking of is Sand Frogs. Some of the original Pyxi geneus were moved to the Tomopterna geneus. Sorry, I know this does not clear anything up.![]()
