My one concern is the size of the tank going forward. I think in the near future you should either make a budget tank (as Don Lisk) suggested or invest in a 10 or more gallon tank. Heck, depending on where you live, I would be up for giving/mailing you an extra 10 gallon I have! Send me a private message, and I help get you that larger tank.

Be careful with the potting soil. A lot of potting soil has fertilizer added to it, or those little styrofoam balls that could cause an impaction. Eco-earth (coconut fiber) is safe, easy, and pretty cheap, so I would switch to that if I were you.

Also, I think toads might appreciate a coconut hut, or piece of cork bark, or something similar to hide under.

I would make it deeper too. That isnt much for a big fat toad to burrow in.

well the toad is able to completely bury itself so i thought it was deep enough. what stores carry coconut fiber? would petsmart caus im going there tomorrow. i got smaller crickets and calcium powder and gave that to him today. i think i have something for him to hide in laying around somewhere. i made sure the potting soil didnt have that added stuff so i took some that was in our old garden. any other advice?

Petsmart should have the coconut fiber. It comes dehydrated in a brick shape, and you soak it before you use it.

If he can completely bury himself, I think that would be ok. You might make it deeper when he gets bigger though.

Also, be sure to dechlorinate your water before you use it with the frog tank, or use bottled spring water (not distilled).

well i also have freshwater aquariums so when i make water i make extra for his cage. and are small baby fish okay to feed toads? i got mollies and their breeding like crazy so im trying as many things as i can to get rid of them. my local fish store offered to take some. and when there born there only less then a half an inch so that is smaller than his head. just wondering so he has some treats .
