how many lumens and what color temp? if they are close to what the comercial fixtures are, then they may be a good alternative.

Those aren't the car LEDs but they're a "lightbulb" like we're used to thinking about lightbulbs.
The one at the link is 450 lumens & color temp 2800K.
The nice thing about LEDs is that they don't contain the mercury found in CFLs
