Hello, i am constructing a custom viv from scratch. However i do not know what to put in it. The tank dimensions are 30x12x20 (lxwxh). It will also have plenty of live plants. I would like to put a treefrog in it that is
1. Inexpensive nothing over $30 because i will be getting two
2. Unique or colorful something that is not common
3. A species in which two ccould be housed together without fighting
All ideas will be appreciated
1.0.0 Red Eyed Leaf/ Frog - Agalychnis callidryas
1.1.1 Bumblebee Dart Frog - Dendrobates leucomelas
1.1.0 Dendrobates truncatus - Yellow Striped
1.1.1 Dendrobates tinctorius – Bakhuis Mountain
1.1.0 - Dendrobates tinctorius - Powder Blue
1.1.0 - Ranitomeya vanzolinii
Well, um... I would try some of the neglected north american hylids (i have a certain geographic bias. While everyone else keeps crazy colorful tropical species, I like the local species).
Acris crepitans is awesome, especially if you need music in your house (they are ALWAYS calling). If it is legal in your area to collect, they are also free, because if you go to a permanent water body there will be 80 million of them. They will just need a water feature to be happy. They like living at pond margins along the bank and in low lying vegetation.
Hyla squirella, also awesome, care requirements are much like green treefrogs, but they are also much neglected.
Cuban treefrogs: Eating machines, I would only recommend getting one in a tank that size. They are large, non-flighty. I can carry mine around on my shoulder. The benefits of toxic skin secretions, the frogs just... do not concern themselves with petty concerns like avoiding predation.
If you insist on something exotic, reed frogs are also cool.
Thanks for giving me a few ideas
I will do some more research on the species you guys suggested to me
Don't know if this helps. But these are beautiful frogs with all the info! You could try surfing around on this site to find more too!
