I do not buy into snake oil salesmen.
I am exceedingly leery of ANY company or product that uses catch phrases like "probiotics". This company's website has a long sales pitch of technical sounding jargon that really turns me off. I could give a darn less about enzymes and probiotics without documentation to back up the claims.
I am also a severe cheapskate.
I needed a large amount of flightless Drosophila hydei fast.
After my usual plodding research I decided to purchase a 5 culture pack from FlyCafe.net.
They sell two types of cultures, fresh and established. I purchased the fresh five pack.
Total cost including shipping and handling was 31.75 USD. The website is easy to use and online line ordering is very simple via PayPal or Card.
My five, very large cultures arrived on time, as promised. They were very well packed. Out of five cultures there was maybe one dozen adult flies crushed by the food media in shipment.
D, hydei is a bit slow to culture compared to D. melanogaster, but two weeks later, I am swimming in fruit flies. My small critters are very happy. I used the temperature trick to stagger out the production, even though the cultures were all inoculated at the same time so two of the cultures are EXPLODING with adult flies right now.
I am very impressed with these cultures and plan on doing business with this company again. As for their "enhanced" feeder media...well...looks, smells, and tastes just like the standard commercial fruit fly food everyone else uses.
Since this is my first purchase with them, I will withhold any serious recommendation other than that you should give them a try. You cannot beat their prices.
Watching FrogTV because it is better when someone else has to maintain the enclosure!
