    Default New frog

My kids were outside playing in the yard today and caught a tiny little frog. They are determined to keep it though I would rather put it back outside. I think I am going to try to keep it till hopefully they forget about it in a couple of weeks. It appears to be a pacific chorus frog. I will take pictures later and post them. For how ever long we keep him I want to take good care of him. He is tiny so I am not sure that even the small crickets we feed out whites tree frog are small enough. He is about the size of the end of my finger. I have a five gallon tank that I can keep him in and have read the care sheet. Is there anything else I should do?

If it's a froglet, the small crickets wont work, you will need pinheads or fruit flies. A 5 gallon would have to be VERY temporary, remember, it is a tree frog and they do like their space! If you decide to keep him, plan on getting a bigger tank. Also, if you keep him for a "while" and decide you're done, you shouldn't release it back into the wild. It will get used to having it's food handed to him. If you don't want it as a permanent pet, I would suggest releasing it now.

My husband wont be home for several hours so I will ask him then what he wants to do. We have a 15 gallon tall tank for our whites tree frog and are currently building him a much larger habitat that we will be getting him a friend for if we can find a grown whites. So I can move him into that once the whites new home is completed if we keep him. He is really small now and I made him a 3 inch deep pond and put a large cleaned rock in it to give him something to rest on. He has clean dirt and moss as subtrate and a hide away made from a small water dish. I also covered him with a shirt till we go to the store to get plants if we are going to keep him.

We let him go to night and are telling the kids he excaped back to his Mommy and Daddy, because he missed them. They are little so they will understand this. I think we might just clean up the 5 gallon and set it up for a baby whites tree frog. They are really tiny at the pet store and need to grow a lot before we can put one in with Frogger our current Whites Tree frog and move it up to his current 15 gallon when we move him to his new tank that we are working on. And then in with Frogger when he is big enough. Thanks for the advice though.

Sounds like fun! I can't wait to see. I think you made a good choice also at this point. The kids will like another whites better anyways!

It is going to be alot of work we have been planning and buying right now. But it is going to cost us a pretty penny by the time we are done but it will hopefully be a home we can add to and take from and use for many many years to come and it will be easier for our young children to take care of thier frogs and crabs because we are building a feeding chamber into it for the frogs and the crabs will have doors which will make it easier. I will still be cleaning the tanks but they will get to be more active in feeding thier pets. Right now they wash the bowls out and then I do everything. So I am hoping this will be better for them to be more active since they want to and cant currently for fear Frogger will get away and the mess of having to change the sand and coco fiber because the poored the hermit crabs water all out in there. The kids will really enjoy this I think.
