Hey, I'm Hillary. I'm new at being a frog keeper. I got a fire-bellied toad three weeks ago, and went back to get a friend a week later. I'm going today to get a new tank and things. The original one, I think, was pleasing to only one frog. However, I think with two they need more room.

Like I said, I'm new to this, so any advice you have for me would be helpful. I'd like to breed them. I'm not sure of there sexes. Is there a way I can find out? I'll tell you, I don't have a basement. Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, Hillary! I'm fairly new here myself, but I keep poison dart frogs. All I can tell you is that you'll find the nicest and most knowledgeable folks around in this forum and they'll be happy to help you.

Welcome to the forum. Firebellies were my first frogs as well. They are also the most interactive frogs. They definatley like company. Check out the care article. I think it also mentions breeding but the problem with breeding them is you will have hundreds. Due to the fact that they are so inexpensive it is sometimes hard to get rid of that many. Check with your local petshops to see if they are interested in taking in large groups before you venture into such a large responsibility. You don't want to be stuck with 150 firebelly toads. That's a lot of mouths to feed.

I was at petsmart to get crickets one day, and they must have had 30+ firebellies there!

I was able to check out the care sheet. I'm not too sure about putting my toads in my refridgerator! haha. I guess I will just have to cool the room they're in.

They are a hard frog to sex and are usually bred in groups. Males will call of course, so if have some for years and you never see one call (and it's more plump), it's probably a female.

Wow! I didn't know they bred so many! I will definitely check with my local pet store. When I bought Theodore and Jessibelle, I saw a sign that said "very limited". I'm hoping with that outlook they'll be more than happy to take some.

They do well in room temperature. There's usually no need to supply additional heating unless your house is especially cold in the winter time.

Awesome! I read so many that said it needs to be 75 degrees. It says aroung 70 and 72. I just moved in this place in May so I'm not sure how the winter is gonna carry out, but I'll keep them cozy! You all have been so much help! Thanks!
