New Red-Eyes

Hey guys, I'm new on here... but I have a few questions about my new Red Eyes. I've had them before, and I still have one adult Red Eye so I had decided to get some more. I ordered a pair offline, and I while the website said they were sending "baby" Red Eyes, I was expecting juveniles, not legitimate babies. I have them set up in a critter carrier right now with a paper towel at the bottom, a water bowl to soak in, and I'm feeding them flightless fruit flies. I was just wondering if there was anything else I could do for them to improve their quality of life until I can move them into the terrarium with the adult frog.

I've attached pictures of them while they were still in the traveling container, and I can post a pic of the carrier if you would like.

While I'm not by any means a expert on them as I just received my first red eyes a month or so ago I can recommend getting in touch with Tony and Kurt here on the forum. Tony is the breeder I received my frogs from. I'm sure he can give you the help needed.

Depending exactly how small the are I'm sure dusted pin head crickets would work. You can gradually increase the size as they grow to reduce the amount needed for feeding. You will probably have to order the smaller crickets on-line from a supplier as I'm not aware of any of the chain pet stores carrying anything like the pin heads.

I will definitely talk to them, thank you. But just so you know these little ones are legitimately the size of my thumbnail. The blue and yellow on their sides haven't even come in yet, and their feet are more gold than orange though you can tell that the coloration is starting to show. I've never had babies this young before, and I've never bred so I have no idea if this is normal or not.

Your setup sounds fine, except that I would also add a small live plant or two for them to climb and sleep on. It's hard to get a sense of scale from the picture, but it looks like they are well past the stage where they need fruit flies and should be able to take 1/4" crickets. The coloring looks perfectly normal for their age and will continue to intensify as they grow.

Here's the way that I raised my baby Red Eyes. I kept them in a small tank 12X12 with one Pothos still in the pot. I kept a white paper towel on the bottom. I raised up the water dish so the crickets couldn't climp in it and drown. I ordered a box of 1000 pin head crickets from the internet. You will lose a lot of them as they will even drown in the mist. I would put in a bunch of pin head crickets on the paper towel as the frogs were waking up for the night. In the morning when the frogs were asleep on the plant I would lift it out, take out the paper towel and wash out the tank. Then change the water dish and you're ready for the next night. The tank stays clean and the frogs get enough food. The crickets will get bigger as they grow but so will the frogs. They do grow pretty quickly. As the crickets get bigger you can start feeding them to your adult frog so they don't go to waste.
