Default Do female gray tree frogs ever make noise?

I feed my 3 gray tree frogs separately every other night to make sure they're each getting their fair share of food. Last night, Silvermist, who is nearly an adult, almost as big as my female Paddy, made a small chirping noise when I pulled her out of the tank to feed her. She has never made any noise before, and Leggy, my male, who is FAR smaller than silvermist, already chirps all the time. Could she be a male? Or did she chirp out of distress? I have read that the only time that the female gray tree frogs chirp is to get the male off them when they are done mating.

Female frogs do make noise occasionally - usually when irritated, or responding to males. Although both of those things do tend to be combined.

I believe John mentioned in the comments section of his care article, that they do indeed.
    Oops, didn't see artes' comment

It was only in there because people were sort of hijacking it with non article related questions...which is mostly why I was reading them anyway It stuck in my mind because it was an interesting fact that I'd never thought to ask.

It's called a release call. Females use it to tell other frogs that they don't want to be touched right now.

Very interesting, thank you. I think the weather fluctuations (the last few weeks have been between 36 and 90 degrees!) have made my frogs all sort of cranky lately, Paddy was trying to escape, Silvermist was chirping at me, Willow has never been fond of me, but she is extra unfond of me the last few days. Only Leggy seems to be unaffected by what's going on, but he's busy hitting puberty!
