New Accidental Frog/tadpole caretaker:)

Hi everyone,
Glad to have found this site. I didn't choose frogs as pets, they chose me.
We purchased a house and have been doing landscaping by the pool. It's on a heavily wooded hill in TN. We heard what we thought was a bird coming from a large, unused flower pot. In between the decorative outside pot and the interior pot was a frog. We passed it off but then regularly heard the calls from the pot then a response coming from across the yard. There is some shredded paper in the bottom, and after a week of rain we figured it had made the pot home. Needless to say, the water got algae and a little gamey so I moved it to the back of the yard. We decided not to dump the water and see what happened. I went out to look at it this morning, First I thought there were little bugs in the water, but after more looking realized there are tons of tadpoles that must have just hatched. The water was getting a little low since it's been hot with no rain so I added about a quart of purified water. It's in a spot that gets sun till about 2 pm then shade.
I know nothing about frogs. I think it's a gray tree frog but not sure. Obviously mom has made herself comfy, as you can see by my profile pic of her napping on the pool rail. Not sure what or if I should do anything as these develop. Will the pot be too small after awhile? Will I need to move them to a bigger container? It's about a 5 gallon planter I think. Does the mother live with them as they develop, or leave them? Also worried because we'd laid down some insect killer a couple weeks ago, though I've heard her calling from that area in the past couple days. Will we be overwhelmed with frogs when they mature?

That is definitely a gray! You must have more than one living around there too, because only the males call, the females are quiet.

As for the other questions, I've never raised tadpoles myself, but MANY here have and can give you some good advice. A 5 gallon planter seems quite small for a load of tadpoles though. Also, keep in mind, if they get in your pool, they will die. The chlorine will kill them or they will drown.

I had tadpoles (toads) for about 3 days before dumping them in a pond where my kids found them, obviously that isn't an option for you though! Good luck, I hope someone can help you out.

Thanks for the response. Yes, there are tons of them here. The subdivision backs up to a wildlife preserve and we have 4 acres going straight up a ridge in back. There are some creeks around but they don't always have water in them. Maybe I will look around for a pond I can put them in as well. Now that I know for sure they are gray, I may repost under that section..
