    Smile Fave viv plants?

I know that I'm definitely putting a ficus or two in my next viv. I love the look of bromeliads, but I can't find any locally that are small enough and I don't feel like paying for them to be shipped. Going to put some live moss in too. I will copy a few plants that are doing well in my current viv too. And I already posted a diff thread about this, but since there are no answers I'll ask again here, do I need a uvb light for these plants? It's quite a deep tank (35 gal hex) so light has trouble reaching the bottom (that was a problem for the live plants when it was a fish tank)

What is a good climbing one that I could likely get locally? I love creeping fig but haven't found that around here either. Other faves? Thanks

Amy, if your looking for creeping fig, just watch for some home owners' wall covered in it while your driving around. The stuff grows everywhere and overtakes walls, fences, and such pretty quickly.

As for Bromeliads, you can sometimes find the pups shooting off of larger plants and use them. Good garden centers usually carry Bromeliads and will spit them so you can have the pups.

Plants are very dependent on the frog your putting in with them.
I like Crypthanthus which has similar features as a Bromeliad and can handle somewhat of a beating as long as your plant a larger version of the plant.

You do not need a UVB bulb. I use both CFLs and the Reptile Blue Day light bulbs with success. I would say the blue one slightly over the CFL, but if you're in a cheap mood, the CFLs are fine too.

If you want a good climbing plant, nothing beats the pothos. It grows alot and fast on everything it can. It's very hardy and will support many tree frogs species easily. And it's nearly impossible to kill.

It's the one haning in the middle of the tank planted on the right side and in the back. However, this picture is 3-4 weeks old, which is VERY noticable with this plant. It has grown alot since then

EDIT: Forgot to mention how it climbs. It uses root-like extentions which it uses to attach itself. They are somewhat "sticky", and will attach itself to anything with texture (the background, vines, rocks, tree logs etc.), so you can create really good-looking stuff. Mine for example, is now twisted along the front vine in the picture.

Thanks everyone!!! I actually have a pothos that I'm quite sick of in a pot on my porch, I will probably clean that off and put it in there...would look nice wrapped around the branches. I have blue daylight bulbs right now too (50w), so I will keep using that.

I didn't know that about the creeping fig, I will look around!! I will also look for Crypthanthus, thanks so much everyone!!

As Artes said, you CLF bulbs work great and I buy mine from ome Depot for about 5 bucks each.

Here are some pics from my vivs and it really takes some maintenance to keep up with the growth.

And these plants are pups that grew from the plants in the above viv. Lights are two 13 watt CLFs and 1 T8 florescent tube at 24 inch. Your tank, I would opt for he 26 watt CLFs.
