The next contest is going to run through summer. I figured many people may take trips or go away on vacation so this will give a little more time. Now we just need some ideas to get everyone involved. It has to be something educational and interesting at the same time. It also has to be something a newbie can do. MeTree won our last contest which was much more difficult and that may have turned off some new folks. MeTree did a fantastic job even though he just got into the hobby. But, this time we'll make the project a little easier and less intimidating.. John has offered to donate the prize this time. A couple of juvenile Dendrobates Tinctorius "Patricia" darts or a probable pair of Ranitomeya Imitators "Veradaro" thumbnail darts. So we've got to make this contest a good one. Any and all ideas please....
Sara suggested a plant contest, as they are part of our vivs. Basically, have a "what's the best plants for frog X", or "how to take care of plants in a vivarium", "real plants VS fake plants, the pros and cons", etc... Basically, it would allow us to do some research, share our best practices, take about light, watering, and everything involving plants which are an essential part of a frog's life...
I like Eric's better half's suggestion. I've been thinking that a "Meet the Plant" section would be nice, with short articles on one type of plant (or a closely related group of plants) each containing info like light and water needs, type of frog it is suitable for, propagation techniques, various common names it goes by, how fast it grows, how to trim it, photos, and so on. Some kind of preplanned structure might be nice to make submissions of this type uniformish and give people something to aim for.
It would be nice to have a vivarium plant guide.
