Hey peeps,
I'm sad to say my first post here is one about a sick frog, but it's the best I can do right now, so I hope you'll forgive me.
I have two whites tree frogs - a little blue female australian, and a larger male indonesian (he's the only one who calls...he LOVES the vacuum!). Their names are Oolong and Bing-cha, respectively.. and yes, they're named after teas.
I've had them for 4 years - since they were froglets - and both were captive bred.
They live in a 36 gallon bowfront tank which is stocked with live plants, soil, mosses and sticks all bought from a pet store. Their light is a compact fluorescent reptile light, there's a heating pad on the right side of the tank, and a big water dish tucked in the back (hard to see).
The two frogs have been happy and healthy until now... I noticed that Bing-cha had been hiding out for a week, which was odd, as usually I see both frogs out and about at least every other day. When I pulled him from his hiding place, he looked like this:
normally, he looks like this (taken about a month ago on my daughter's elbow):
the other frog, Oolong, is doing great (albeit dirty... both frogs were tucked down in one of their favorite hiding-holes):
I tried to rinse some of the debris from Bing-cha so you could see better, but I'm not sure I helped any :P
My vet that does exotics isn't in until Saturday, and I've also got to do some creative shuffling of funds to get the $58 together that he charges just to LOOK at the frog.
I'm not sure what to do... obviously Cha has lost a lot of weight.. I saw him chasing crickets when last I fed them, but I guess he's not getting any nutrition. He's usually such a fantastic eater x.x I feel just awful that I didn't notice he was going downhill sooner... the frogs have always been so happy.
I'm sure there's probably more information i need to post, but if anyone has any great ideas, I'd love to hear them...although at this point my history of dealing with animals tells me that when they're this sick looking, they often don't make it.
I feel like such a horrible frog-mommy right now. x.x
Thanks for even reading this...
