After being a herp mama for a whopping 2 1/2 weeks, I decided I wanted an addition to my herp family. I thought it would take a while to find one, but they came to me much more quickly than I expected.
From 1 frog, to 4!!!!
When I went to pick them up, I could see that they were very VERY well taken care of. Humidity may have been a touch low, their skin seemed dry, but I think they'll perk up fast. The person I got them from has a huge love for herps and EEK arachnids! He had 2 crested geckos, a blue tongued skink, 3 beautiful boas, and countless spiders!!! YIKES I HATE SPIDERS... the rest was fantastic though. His tanks were beautiful!
Anyways...onto my new gray tree frogs.
Trying to figure out what is going on
A gray colored one
Green colored one
TINY green colored one...not so tiny that it'll get eaten though
They are all very tame and very comfortable with me. At least one is a male because I heard chirping in the car on the way home.
I bought 30 crickets yesterday but I am definitely getting more tomorrow. Luckily my kids go to ballet right next to the pet store twice a week LOL They were eating dubia roaches but they gobbled down crickets tonight without a problem.

Nice. It gets addictive quick. Craigslist notifier app helps. Enjoy the frogs.
Frogs do get addictive. I started with "Wouldn't a couple of firebelly toads be cute?" and ended with ... well, my signature, lol.

I highly recommend White's Tree Frogs. They are some of the coolest frogs in the world.
CongratsThey are so cute. They do change colors... depending on their surroundings and mood. My gray tree frog turns solid white when he comes out to see me, and when he is hiding he is very dark grayish brown. He also turns gray with dark gray spots.
There is pics of him in my album if you want to see!

I thought they changed color based on their surroundings, that is clearly not true. Paddy has always stayed a gray/white coloring, never changed except when I first got her, she was more green. The Gray one I took a pick of is a brownish black right now, the two green ones have stayed green though! Funny since the 3 are in the same tank, you'd assume they'd take on similar colors. Not true though!!

My little guy turns white when he's sleepy, and gray when he's playful.
That is super adorable!! To be honest, the gray tree frog would not have been my first pick...now that I learn more about them and spend more time with them, I'm in love!! They are smart and so interesting. The chameleon like qualities make them extra awesome! I will surely have gray tree frogs for a long LONG time to come.

Congrats on the new additions! Dry skin seems to be pretty normal with Grays, they aren't a slimy frog.
It seems to be a combo of surroundings, humidity, and temperature. Each individual will also have a range of colours it can switch too. For example my female only ranges from a very light gray to a dark gray, and the only green she ever displays is the patch under her eyes. My male ranges from light gray to greenish/dark gray to full on green.
Congrats on your new grey tree frogs! They're adorable! I'm new to frogs and have an African Dwarf Frog and an American Green Tree frog, and I'm planning on getting another AGTF soon. I would love to keep greys some day.
Thanks![]()
I'm going to start working on a new Viv this week...then of course, I have to figure out what to do with the old one![]()
