    Unhappy PLEASE help sick Frog

So my girlfriend got a pac man frog last November and it was doing well until about a month ago. its lost its apatite and is very very lazy. more so than normal. He was on wood chips with a few crickets and some oatmeal sprinkled in there for the crickets...they cleaned the cage with windex.(i told them that was a stupid thing to do) and we took it out and put it in a plastic container with paper towels and a water dish. it was getting better, we used unflavored pedia light to get it re hydrated, and then last night it got a cut some how and started bleeding slightly then stopped. when she woke up today and looked at it, it was on its back and it bled more...any one know what is wrong? should i try force feeding it and use bactine on the cut?
Please Please Please help, shes been terribly upset over this as have I....
    Thanks for any input.

Unless the frog is starting to look drastically underweight, force-feeding is a bad idea. Sometimes frogs lay on their back as a defense mechanism. Did he act better when you flipped him over or continue to act very unwell? If you want to rehydrate him, I'd recommend just putting him in his water dish and leaving him in that for awhile. You're right, the Windex is a very bad idea. Also, once you get him back to normal, you need to change wood chips for a coco fiber substrate, as wood chips can cause impaction. Have you been dusting his food with some sort of calcium supplement? If not that can cause some serious issues. Can you post a picture of the injured leg?

Good luck and keep us updated.

Your frog will more than likely die soon. These frogs don't lay on there back in defense, they attack in defence. They flip to their back to play dead as a last attempt to save themselves and usually die soon after. Don't put ant thing on the cut. That will just kill your frog faster. I would put him in dry coco fiber, after cleaning the wound with water only. The natural film that they develop when they get to dry should seal the cut. keep it warm in the tank, and only mist the parts of him that are not cut, you'll want that to stay dry. After becoming warm and dry offer calcium covered crickets. Unless he is really under weight, I wouldn't force feed. This will further stress him out. If you can see his bony back structure then force feeding is recommended. Wash your hands without the use of soap, hold your frog in your left hand with your thumb and index finger around his head so he can't jump out or bite. Then take a calcium covered cricket, and rub it across your frog's mouth until it pops its mouth open. Then just stick it it there. Keep the back of your finger in front of its mouth so it can't spit out the cricket. Wait until it blinks its eyes and swallows before you do the next one. I got one of my male pacs in December, and it is the size of a soft ball. Your frog is prolly still small because of the all cricket diet. If it lives, I would start giving it a pinky mouse every now and then. Calcium is important!

I use Reptocal with my frog. You can find it at basically any pet store.

If the cut begins to look infected, about the only thing you can put on it is Neosporin; the kind WITHOUT painkillers added. Painkillers will kill the frog. Until it improves, the 'hospital tank' setup that you have is probably best. Just paper towels and a water dish. This allows you to better monitor what's going on with the frog and also keeps bits of substrate from getting into the wound. It should also keep the frog a little drier than normal. Just make sure he doesn't get too dry!

okay, Ill be getting the dusting powder tomorrow....we are taking it to the local exotic vet...he was on hi sback again when we got to her house, and it isnt holding it self quite right...leaning tward one side...when i picked it up to inspect the cut it looked glazed over and he wasnt bleeding any more. how ever, when i was lowering him, he shot all his legs out and ducked his eyes in like he was playing dead. hopefully he will make it to the vets tomorrow.
