Default Hello, ADF fungus and bloat advice please

    Hello,

I'm hoping for any successful treatment plans anyone has used in treating fungus & bloat in ADF's.

Currently I am treating both for the fungus w/ Lamisil spray 1% - 10 sprays in 7/8 cup aquarium water in a 5 minute bath once a day. Day 1.
(question - can the Lamisil be reused day after day or should I make a fresh batch everyday?)

    They are in separate containers.

The one who just has fungus I am putting in a fresh water tub for the rest of the day.
(question - should this frog have other medicine in the all day water?)

The other who has both bloat and fungus is in a solution of T.C. Tetracycline 500mg. per packet, following dose for fish, and aquarium salt - 1/8 teaspoon salt per gallon. So an all day bath of Tetracycline and salt.
(question - I cannot find a good dose for salt for ADF's. Some sites say no salt others say yes salt but don't give a dose amount. The frog isn't expressing distress, but the salt dose is so low is it even helping to draw off the fluids?)
Day 3 on this treatment and the bloat has slightly gone down but the frog is still floating w/ no appetite.

Any hands on advice would surely be appreciated. Information for these little guys is sparse at best.
    Thank you

(also, the tubs I am using are the tubs Bettas come in w/ about an inch and a half water in them and the lids, temp. 71. I was floating the tubs in their 10 gallon tank, temp 78. Which is better?

The water I am using is from my Betta sorority tank - mature, cycled. 0 ammonia - 0 nitrite - 15 nitrate. Are those water parameters ok or should I use tap water treated w/ Prime for 0 Nitrate level?)

Is there a direct link to an ADF forum in this site? I am not finding it.
    Thank you

Sorry to hear about your frogs. There isn't much information on treating ADFs. Most of the treatments recommended for the larger ACFs will work, but the problem is determining the proper dosages for the smaller ADFs.

The bloating is caused by several factors: bacterial infection, not enough salts in the water (distilled water is a no-no) or feeding of freeze dried foods (especially bloodworms). You can try adding one teaspoon of non-iodized salt (marine sea salts work OK) to about 5 quarts of water. The condition is also known as "balloon frog syndrome", edema, dropsy or hydrops.

Tetra's Fungistop or similar product has been used successfully in treating the fungus infections in ADFs.

Here is a link where you can find some useful information Disease and Illness in Detail.

Good luck and hope all goes well with your frogs

Thank you Terry - the link you gave sent me on alot more learning.
The bloat in the 1 frog is almost completely gone (Day 5 of treatment)
and the fungus has greatly subsided (Day 2 of 10 on treatment).
Now that I have a much better grasp of just how infectious this fungus is I'm glad
I separated them so they can't reinfect each other until treatment is done.

Glad your frogs are doing better. My "rule of thumb" about keeping frogs is learning how to prevent problems before they become problems. Make sure you keep accurate records of your treatment program because there will be others with the same problems
