I am getting set up for another batch of x.laevis breeding...and as promised in another post a while ago I am asking you guys to choose the pair!
In this post I will post pictures of the males and then females available, I have not included a piebald this round - Igor will not be bred due to his spine twist, and Harvey is still young and I would prefer to have him longer prior to breeding him to be able to verify his health. Phoenix is not here due to her having experienced mild bloating in the past. Andre is not here due to his stunted growth - maybe in the future I will try and breed "smaller" x.laevis but not at this time. The two borealis, Aurora and Boris are not being bred yet, due to limited space I am breeding only one batch at this time and decided to go with x.laevis.
#1 - - Phantom. Natural/marbled/pied male.
#2 - - Magellan. Golden Reticulated Albino male.
#3 - - Louie. Albino male.
#4 - - Jade. Natural/marbled/pied female.
#5 - - Lola. Reticulated Albino female.
#6 - - Kirby. Albino female.

The poll closes in ONE WEEK - June 3rd 2011 it will close and the pair with the most votes will be conditioned for breeding.
Awesome pics...going by those pics...I would try to breed Magellan (albino retic Male) with Jade (natural/marbled Female, as she is Beautiful!!) and Mag, seems to have very prominent, striking reticulated pattern ;-)
Got my pick in. If it goes according to "my" vote I will be happy to take some off your hands this August if any of them are ready when I come down.![]()
I picked Mag and Jade also, I think they would make some very cool babies !
Magellan and Jade are definitely in the lead between this forum and one of my fish forums...
the running is as of right now -
Percentages out of 200% = (combining both forums percentages)
65.71 / 200 Phantom and Jade
67.14 / 200 Magellan and Jade
17.14 / 200 Phantom and Lola
41.43 / 200 Magellan and Lola
So...definitely seems like Jade is the preferred female...waiting to see if any more votes come in the next hours ....pretty close between Magellan and Phantom
ok all.... caving in, going to do two breedings!
Which ever pairs get the most votes, as long as a female is not being bred twice for the females health...
Meaning Lola and Jade are both going to be bred...now just have to figure out if Magellan and Phantom are going to each be paired with a female, or if one male will be lucky enough to get both![]()
I vote for George and Gracie...oh they are not on your list..they decided to have tadpoles anyway. Thank you Jen for saving the tadpoles let's hope we get some nice babies.
George and Gracie's Tadpoles

Well, as you can see - my mother in law's frogs laid eggs a few days ago...we weren't planning on raising those eggs so we wiped away what we thought was all the eggs....I went by her house today to do her water change and low and behold - she has clingers!
32-40 in all...couldn't get an accurate count because they wouldn't stay still.
We sat for two hours catching them one by one with a turkey baster. My mother in law only has the one tank with the adults, so I took them home and have them in one of the tanks I had just set up for my breedings next week.
Funny how things work out, huh?
This batch of tadpoles had a natural/pied/marbled father and a reticulated albino mother. There are some dark tadpoles but mostly white tadpoles with black eyes - these will be either reticulated albinos (most likely) or leucistic albinos (less likely but possible).
So....now I will be only doing one mating of my own for the time being while I raise this batch for Barbara (mom in law)

Aren't they adorable??? George made the deciding vote!!! LOL
nervous....really hope they adjust ok...
two hours of catching them with a turkey baster, then driving home with them in a tupperware container, then having to take the time to float their tupperware in the new tank to make the temps match....
I am praying this wasn't too much stress and change for them...![]()
just checked on the tadpoles....most if not all seem to have survived the transition between tanks!
Didn't take any new pictures yet because the tank is in the bedroom, and its 5am and the husband is sleeping lol
Off to work and then my little sisters bday party - then I will come home and take some new pictures - will probably start a new thread to track their development
seems like Magellan and Jade won the votes on both forums - -
Jade has been enjoying her diet of earth worms lately - I will put Magellan in with her one night this weekend![]()
ok...updating.
Kept Magellan and Jade together for over a week...no magic happened.
Have had Phantom and Lola together for a week...no magic happening....
the males have most certainly been trying but the females are not cooperating and I don't want to overly stress the females from constant mating attempts.
Meanwhile, my borealis male has been calling nonstop and latching onto Igor every 5 minutes (Igor is a male).
So i am going to put the borealis pair together to see if they make any magic.
fingers crossed.
I will be keeping my fingers crossed!!! Btw, I will be posting a new clip of the Borealis tads, in the next few days or so...they are HUGE! Much larger than laevis tads...all have their hind legs now, and a few even have the arm buds developing now!
