Any ideas? or Solutions. Thanks! =)
I covered the sides and back of my tank completely in black silicone. That way it hides the false bottom and the great stuff foam from seeing it from the outside. For the front im going to cut the egg crate back about a half inch and put another piece of it going straight down. That way it will be able to hold back aquarium gravel that will be in between that and the glass. Kinda hard to explain lol. I'll try to take some pictures if I get a chance if you don't get what im sayin.
Some people use black contact paper to cover the bottom three inches. Some have even spray canned it black.
You can also use eggcrate to create a false front and fill it in with gravel, LECA, or another inorganic medium.
Tony that is exactly what I was talking about. You did a better job of explaining it than I did lol
thanks guys, i think im going to go with the hydro instead.. just to avoid all of this lol
Both ways of building a false bottom work well. I have found that using the clay balls really does add a lot of weight to the vivarium. So if your doing a large one then that adds up quickly and it gets expensive. Using the egg crate method really reduces the weight but does not provide the surface area for beneficial bacteria.
If you do the egg create method be sure to reinforce the front vertical part at several places so when you add the gravel or hydro balls it won't push the vertical part back allowing the stuff to slip under it.
I have constructed vivariums both ways and either is appropriate to do.

As always your mileage may vary!
I may or may not know what I'm talking about!
