Default Worried and need some guidance

    Hi -

We live in Massachusetts. We got a tadpole at a wildlife refuge - I am not sure what kind it is...maybe a bullforg. We got it in September. In the past few weeks it turned into a frog and today - its tail is GONE. Its whole body turned a lighter color overnight (sort of yelloish orange brown) and I am worried that it is getting water-logged. There is a rock and a log in its tank, but it is just floating on top of the water. It does move around vigorously when I touch it, though. I want to return it to the wildlife refuge and I wonder if I should buy some crickets to try to feed it. From what I have read, it might not eat for a few more days. Does anyone know? Cab you advise me please? Thank you!!!

Hi there Bonphire and welcome to the forum .

The best thing to do is to put up a photo so we can see what we are actually dealing with. For now make sure the frog has easy access out of the water as they can drown. Lower the water level if you have to. Once the tail is absorbed then your frog will be wanting to start eating.

I don't know if this will work - but here is a picture of Mrs. Tadpole. We would like to keep it (I have no idea if "it" is female...we just call her Mrs. Tadpole).

Is there another way to feed her without bringing crickets into my kitchen? What kind of a frog do you think she is?

Her tail just about got absorbed yesterday.

    Thanks!

I don't think she is big enough for crickets yet unless you can get pin heads. If you live near Plaistow NH then Zoo Creatures may have pin head crickets and something tiny for her to eat.

You can also contact Black Jungle in Mass and see if they are close to you, if not, see about shipping in something small and healthy for her.

Lithobates clamitans melanota, green frog. A semi-aquatic frog.
