Hello, I live in Ohio and have never been up close and personal with frogs or toads before but we have a small toad that has come to live in/under my shade garden. He has no back feet; his back legs stop at the knee. Any ideas if this is a naturally occurring deformity or what could have possibly happened to the little fella, who we have lovingly named "Nubbins."
Also, my husband accidentally stepped on him (but not with his whole weight) last night. Nubbins was hiding under a fern. He was still able to walk afterward and is still alive this morning. Are toads fairly pliable? Is there any intervention I should do?
I had considered building a terrarium and moving him inside the house but since he's a "wild" toad, was afraid that would be too traumatic for him.
I would love any advice for keeping little "Nubbins" happy and healthy.
