I purchased my African Bullfrog last Fall and kept it indoors with an under-tank heat mat. I'm not sure if this was enough heat or not as it didn't eat much and showed only slight growth. At the begining of this week I moved it's enclosure outside due to the higher temps and humidity we typically get here in kentucky during the summer.
So far there has been a definite change in it's eating behavior, which is improved. I know that each animal is unique in it's growth rate and ulitmate size, but was wondering if the winter low could affect it's overall size or that it's growth will increase despite its picky winter feeding habits?
The winter slow down(actually not eating at all in winter) is perfectly natural and they'll continue to grow regardless until they reach a certain age. After that certain age, growth will significantly decrease.
When the temps aren't high enough pyxies do tend to get very picky due to limited digestibility. Usually only accepting small foods or easy to digest foods because without heat it will rot inside them, cause intestinal blockage, and many other life threatening problems.
A week after moving my frog's enclosure outside has resulted in a drastic change in it's eating behavior...Much improved, which I account for based on the temps and humidity here in KY. Now it's acting like a pixie eating everything it can fit into it's mouth. Seems to have grown...
