Unhappy Bizzare illness and quick death..info please

    Info needed asap
noticed a "blister" on Chocolate this am...she has been totally healthy ( a little chunky) but perfect....broke down the tank and moved everyone to separate isolation tanks...within 5 hours, she was dead...had anyone seen or heard of blisters? afraid it may be contagious to the remaining 3 frogs.

I don't know what it is, but that looks exactly like what killed my green tree frog, but she had it on her foot.

Did your die not really acting sick within hours of seeing this. I had calls into 3 vets & specialist some out of state.. Havent heard anything. I have had the frogs for 7 months without any problems or concerns, so this abrupt and totLly unexpected event has just broken my heart. One of the universities will do necropsy to give me more detail , as I don't want to lose the others. I thought for sure someone hear would have seen this.
Thanks for the reply ... I was starting to wonder if I posted incorrect and this was a private message to myself! ,). Thanks

    Sorry for your loss Laura.
I haven't seen this and am not sure what it could be. Hopefully someone here has more info they can provide towards what this may be.

    Thanks Don,
A pretty horrifying experience! One of my docs sent me her protocol if anyone else shows signs of blistering. We have discovered a small Pleco missing..wonder if that was a culprit. Either way, too afraid of the old tank and it's contents if it is bacterial or fungal in nature...so 400.00 later...new tank, plants etc. Wish us luck !

Your WTF tank had a pleco living in it? I would guess that the blister was the result of a bacterial infection, and it is possible that the spines on a pleco could create a wound that later became infected. Without a necropsy being done by a vet it will be impossible to say for sure what happened, but my guess is that the frog was wounded, either by the pleco's spines or something else, and that wound became infected and killed him. There is no need to throw away the tank or any nonporous decor like water dishes, they can be sterilized with 10% bleach solution and reused.
