I am getting ready to buy frogs but am SO confused! I have researched extensively and know that most different kinds should not be housed together. We would like to buy Dumpie's but would like as much color variation as possible (We are getting 3 or 4, maybe 5, in a 75 gallon habitat.) Most care sheets and informational sites say that Dumpies and Whites are the same thing but that colors may vary slightly. Yet on the Big Apple Herp site (experts I have been told) they list Dumpies and Whites and White Lipped tree frogs as being different. I figured maybe they were just advertising the color possibilities and so I called them today . . . and became more confused. They told me that Whites and Dumpies are NOT the same and cannot be housed together. They said they are different morphs and their skins can be toxic to each other. Can someone please explain the difference between Whites and Dumpies? What is a morph? Can Whites and Dumpies be housed together? Are the color differences just from the region they come from? Can different regional Dumpies be housed together? I am a real softie about any pet and will be HORRIFIED if I accidentally cause harm to one of our frogs! We already have 3 Fire Bellies who are doing very well but I know Dumpies are more difficult. Please save our frogs from my ignorance!![]()
I think whites and dumpy frogs are the same frog but they do come in deffrent colors blue brown purple green and the reason why they come in colors is because if the tank iscolder and dry they turn green if the temp is warmer and humid they turn brown/purple and some are light blue to green they change color according to there mood and conditions ,white lip TF have one color and that is bright green but they are less hardy then whites/dumpys,they like it more humid.and warmer ,I have 4 WTF and 1 WLTF.
White's tree frog and Dumpy tree frog are both common names for the same frog, Litoria caerulea. The white-lipped tree frog is a related species, Litoria infrarenata.
Thanks so much for the clarification! BigAppleHerp had me thinking that they might all die if I mixed the blue shades with the greens in the same tank. I won't get WLTFs but am looking forward to a variety of shades of WTFs!
They are a joy to watch them eat they come alive in a matter of seconds.
