Anyone know how I can get a SAFE culture of LARGE maggots? Like maggots the size of mealworms or superworms would be fine. I'm trying to try out an extremely extremely varied diet for my pets(taking it to the obsessive level. :P ) and wanna know how I can get maggots and not have them be infected with any random crud?
Like I know you attract the flies by meat or something. As when I went to the river I saw this strange dead mouse/vole type thing(I kinda bothered it the week before by accident by turning over logs and stuff. My bad. ) Good thing that came out of that was the idea of growing those type of maggots. I wonder if I can attract the flies to lay eggs on the meat and then take the rotting meat, try taking the eggs out and put it in a newer meat or something and put them in a large container that is completely sealed and let them grow a bit bigger, then keep a bunch of them "chilled" out, while I let a couple pupate and turn into flies. Then the flies in turn will breed and die. But how long will the flies live for? I don't want flies out. My mom will rage. lol I could buy the maggots from grubco or something. But I wanted to start a breeding project of my own. I wonder if I can make those larger flies "flightless". lol. That would make it easier.
As for other stuff like hornworms and other worms. Anyone know a full list of what worms(earthworms, beetle larvae that are not mealies or supers, waxworms, butterworms, hornworms, etc) how could I get them and breed them? I remember by my school there was a TON of silk worms. I could go there. Since there was like a thousand of those things!
