Thanks, I love animals and have always wanted to make a tank like this, and will be making something bigger. I just never had a place to put it until I got my own place. I am very grateful for all the help and information, like you said that's why I am here. I don't want to make the wrong setup for an animal and then have him die because I didn't do it properly.

After doing some quick searching online I think that I will end up getting FBTs. Since I have a large enough tank, I think I will end up with getting 2 FBTs. What should I change to make this more suitable for them? Since I already have this up and running, I would like to make it more suitable without having to make MAJOR changes to the current setup

I have 17 frogs, and 2 of them are fire-bellied toads, and they are great. Extremely active, beautiful colors, and so easy to take care of. And you can easily put more FBTs together compared to some other frogs.

Your setting is pretty good. They need more water than land, 1/3 land, 2/3 water. And the water shouldn't be deeper than 4 inches, you want them to be able to touch the bottom.

You won't need to control the humidity anymore as they will have all they need with the water part. However, FBT are toxic (make sure you always wash your hands before and after you touch them), and they will release toxins in the water. So a small water filter will be needed, and frequent change of water too (the filter will not remove the toxins but will keep your water clean for them).

Make sure your leafage reaches the ground too as they like to hide... Makes them feel better...

Here's the care sheet we have on them... http://www.frogforum.net/toad-care-a...-breeding.html

ok getting a filter should not be a problem, I will be able to put it under the land section since it is blocked off my eggcrate and the FBTs will not interfere with it. If I were to reduce the land and add more water, I would be looking at ripping the whole thing apart and starting from scratch. Not really something I want to be doing at this stage. Would it be suitable if I removed some of the rocks to allow more swimming space? Like I said I want to change it without having to change too much.

You don't have to remove the rocks. FBT will just be happy to be in the water.

oh when I mean remove the rocks, I guess I mean move them around to provide more swimming place for them. After doing research, I think that I am going to get the FBT for sure. I think I will end up picking up 2 this week.

another question....if I were to get a snail would that help with cleaning in the water section? Can the FBTs be with snails without causing problems and/or death?

I did some research into different filters for the water portion, and I think what I am going to do is get a filter than sits outside the tank (I will hide it behind the tank). They are not too much more than some of the submersiables and it will also help when I need to do a partial change of water, I can have it pump the water out of the tank and without making much of a mess and easily fill it back up.I don't want to have too much equipment in the tank and take up valuable space that can be used for them.

I also picked up some lights for the tank. Just got a basic lamp that clibs to the side of the tank, got 2 of them. One will have a daylight bulb and the other will be a moonlight bulb. This will help provide proper lightening to view at night without interferring with their day/night schedule. The daylight bulb will be used to raise the temp a little bit for a small basking area, as well as provided proper lighting for plants that I will be adding in the future.

You can add some snails. I have some in my tanks. Some will die, some will live to clean!

As for the filter, really, don't complicate your life. I use a Fluval submersible and it works perfectly and doesn't take too much space. It's a basic one, and small and does wonders. I change the filters each two months. I know some just clean it!

I ended up getting a submersible filter, as it was a lot cheaper than buying a canister filter. I took out the water fall to open up the pond area for them. I used the rocks to build up around the filter and to build an area where they will be able to get in and out of the water safely. I am going to be getting pebbles to put in the water sometime this week to finish the look.

As for the lighting, I got a daylight bulb. For nighttime viewing I got a moonlight bulb (its blue), but I will need to take it back as it did not work at all (defective). When I was at the store, the rep there told me that I should be using the infared bulbs for nighttime viewing. To me this did not make much sense, as they are fairly bright (and I have a dimmer for my lights). Should I be using the infared bulbs or should I be using the moonlight bulbs?

I want to grow some water plants, not really sure what yet (was thinking those bamboo looking plants that stick out of the water). I just wanted to know what do I need to know about doing this? What sort of substrate needs to be in the water to allow this sort of plant to survive?
