Default New red-eye tree frog owner

    Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the information on this forum! We got a red-eye tree frog for my husband's birthday last March. This Forum has been fabulous for troubleshooting and getting everything right. Our frog has had two cloacal prolapses and all the threads on here helped me figure out that our crickets have been too big. Ironically, the pet store where we bought our frog is the one that sells crickets in a pretty random range of sizes, all mixed up. Our frog appears to be a bit sensitive to cricket size but is otherwise in great health. You guys have all saved our frog by telling me how to deal with the prolapses and listing all the things that could be going wrong! I figured out too that our crickets are growing too much after we get them, so they are too big by the time they go in the cage. Ever since we started buying them smaller and buying them weekly rather than bi-weekly our frog has been great!

We absolutely love our frog. He has the best personality. I got him for my husband because he works late in his office every night and I thought the frog's nocturnal habits would be good company for him when the rest of the house is asleep. Our younger daughter and him have a ritual of coming in to care for the frog at bedtime. Our younger girl is only four but she is fearless with the crickets and is becoming a great frog owner! We hope to get more frogs over time but for now want to make sure we are taking good care of our one frog before we expand!

Anyway, thanks again for all the awesome information on this forum. This Forum has been far more help than any of the books we bought and has been much more reliable than the advice from people at the pet store. All of you convinced me to stick with the one pet store that specializes in fish, amphibians and reptiles rather than waste any time or money at the more general pet stores. Its amazing what a close community there is of people who love frogs!

Well it's great you decided to join. Like many of us, we found this forum full of usefull information, and couldn't resist joining up. Any input you have on impactions will be useful to others, especially with it going into a prolapse. I'm glad you recognized and caught problem, and understood the cause.

Again, welcome to the forum, glad to have you!!!
