I have a new question. Why do my BETF's change colors? They will go from pale beige, to brown, to dark brown, and the younger ones vary in shades of green.

And why, when they to appear to be awake yet dormant, do their eyes turn gold with retracted pupils?

These frogs will have spectacular green colors as juveniles and will become brownish when adults. I have friends of mine who think they are only pretty when young, but I beg to differ.

As for different shades of brown, that is often seen in tree frogs (American Green Tree Frogs for example). Mine has his constant brownish color, but it will vary depending on the humidity, and where mostly he is sleeping. When I first got him, he burrowed himself a great deal (he stopped when the humidity was just right for him) and was very brown. Now he sleeps on the same plant each day and he has a lighter brown.

As for the eyes.... Incredible isn't it? They do sleep with their eyes closes. They do have eyelids, and they can be quite translucent.

Ok, so their frequent color changes (not the color change when they age) are due to humidity and placement? Not mood or anything else?


Also to clarify on the eyes:

I do see that when they sleep they might have a little part of their translucent eyelid showing. But sometimes, they seem awake, and their eyes are wide open, but the eyes are a goldish color and the pupils are slits? Why does this happen?
