Plants need that the air circulates a minimun around them. Otherwise they are going to rot.

Actually, it depends which plant you will be having. Orchids will not do well without air circulation. But overall, with a good drainage system (false bottom and/or hydroballs) and an upper circulation, your plants should be just fine. I have two tanks with no aeration and my broms, ficus (pumilia and oak leaf), Philodendron Erubescens, Alocasia amazonica and even one where I have an orchid do just fine.
