I've heard nothing but good things about this stuff. Just curious about personal experiences with the product.
I do, but I don't have any long-term experience to share. It definitely drains well, but past that I couldn't tell you much more.
Thanks. I need to drill out some pots and get some better soil. I'm killing pothos.. So I think theyre getting over watered our not draining. I'm using sphagnum and eco earth now.
I have phothos that grows out of water. Maybe you need to fluff your soil a little, maybe mix some rocks into it, or put rocks at the base of the plant.
I use ABG and it works pretty well for most of my plants, including pothos. The key is to keep it moist but not waterlogged. Pothos will grow in pure water but will wither and yellow in waterlogged substrate. ABG drains pretty well so if you have a proper false bottom or drainage layer under the substrate, there shouldn't be any problems.
ABG is the only mix I have used so far. It stays moist, drains well and does not seem to compact down too much. So far all my plants are growing very well in it. There are other mixes out there but I find the convenience of just ordering bags of it to be worth the cost and wait time for it to arrive.

As always your mileage may vary!
I may or may not know what I'm talking about!
I have my pothos planted in clay pots foamed to the viv walls. But there is no drainage. they are withering, yellowing and leaves are falling off.
The other vivs with the same pothos are in plastic pots foamed to the walls with holes drilled for drainage and are doing well.
Where have you all gotten your abg? I'm not sure if there are generic knock offs or brands to avoid.
Thanks for your opinions! I'm going to have to check this stuff out!
I ordered my ABG mix from Josh Frogs.

Awesome thanks bud
I get mine from Josh's Frogs as well. It's like $8.99 for a good sized bag. Not bad, but if you have a very large viv, it can quickly get expensive. The recipe is some mix of peat, milled sphagnum, charcoal, orchid bark and tree fern fiber.
