Does anyone know if rose bush branches release any toxins or can harm tree frogs? I removed the thorns on them but I wasn't sure if I had to worry about anything else before they get placed into the tank.
roses in themselves are not toxic, edible even, but they are usually heavily treated with chemicals to keep bugs from eating them. Roses are also going to get mold. Another note, small mini roses are toxic, plant and all. I suggest if you want flowers in your tank, buy sweetpea or African violet. Sweetpea grows taller, 6-8 inches
Also, orchid, but these need good air flow, the other 2 are easier
Thanks a bunch! I just wanted a branch off the plant because it makes a good climbing and support stick. I bet there are some chemicals on it unfortunately.
oh, I see. You're in Iowa, were blest in the Midwest. You can use almost any hardwood branch, as long as it's old, dry, barkless, or 1/2 rotted. Half rotted ones, use a stone and scrub off all the rot. These make a nice Malasian looking wood, with dark and light tones. Bake for one hour at 200 degrees to kill possible chytrid. I use all natural wood in my vivs.
Just no pine or anything weird, oak, iron, hickory, birch, etc are all fine
