I have a 40 gall tall fish tank that I am now using as my Whites Tree Frog home. I have a screen to and maintaining a temp of 80 deg and 50 percent humidity. My question is I have read (always dangerous) that the best ventilation also has vent at the bottom of the tank. Since this tank is so tall (24" h) is ventilation at the top enough? Temps ok too? I am new to this so sorry for the questions.
As far as I understand it the vent at the bottom is to keep the glass from fogging up. And it also helpd with air flow. Air flowing in one vent can go out the other. Just like if you roll one window down on your car there is actually very little air coming in the car. Then you roll a second window down and the air comes rushing in. Same idea better ventilation.
But being its an old fish tank it has no bottom vents. Is that a problem? Will it get enough ventilation? The top is open and there is not condensation on the glass. But it is hard to hold the humidity. Just wondering if it was a problem not to have an bottom vent.
Many people use old fish tanks. It will not be a problem. Usually just misting in the morning and at night is suffient to keep the humidity high enough. 50% is fine. I fluctuate my humidity depending what the weather is like outside. I stay within 50-70 percent. You do not have to have a bottom vent.
Awesome. Thanks
