I am not a new member but have not been very active. I am a teacher and haven't got a lot of spare time. I have recently become interested in frogs and day geckos. I have Leucomelas, Giant Madagascar Day Gecko, Williams Day Gecko, Standings Day Gecko and now have finally gotten my first Red Eyed tree frogs. I have waited all fall and winter for them to grow as captive bred and I am so excited to have them. Sadly one died the day they arrived and I currently can only find two of the remaining three. They are in a tank which has been established for 4-5 months, Exoterra 18x18x24 with turtle pebble base, nylon screen, then a soil mix of cocoa hust, flourite, jungle soil and some jungle moss on top. Planted with sanseveria and dwarf sheffalera as well as some pothos. Back wall is custom designed using great foam and then GE silicone (brown)coated with soil mixture. Several embedded plant pots and a nice mopani wood branch attached to the back. Several ferns and ground plants as well. (now you can see why I can't be sure I have found all my frogs!). I love these little guys and want them to thrive. My leucomelas have been happilyliving with me for almost a year, and call all the time, but no tads yet. I haven't really tried to monitor either - figure if they figure out how to use the provided pond for the tads, great, if not I will work on it later when I have more time.
I raise my own mealworms, roaches and fruit flies.
Glad to be part of the forum - have gotten some really good help today reading about my new red eyes. The crickets and fruit flies I am putting in the tank seem to be disappearing, so I hope all is well. Now if I can just find that third frog - removed all the most the other day to be sure it wasn't on the floor of the tank dead.
...at least I didn't find it!
