    Default My new T beauties!

I got my shipment in today of some new beautiful tarantulas, 12 in all, and thought I would share them with everyone. My birthday was new years eve and as a gift I was able to pick out some new members to join my family so I had to get some new Ts. A few will be going to my younger brother as he has a new found interest in tarantulas, but until then they are snug in my critter room.

Don't worry though I didn't bail on my love of frogs and the opportunity to get a few, I'm receiving 2 Pacmans this weekend as well as a few Bird Poop Frogs. I just wanted to hold off until I have everything ready for them.

This little one Is Lucky Seven. When I first opened everything up It looked like she was squashed. After even lighting brushing her she didn't move and I thought she was dead. Just to be sure though I put her in an ICU while I unpacked everyone. Sure enough about 15 minutes later I seen her running around in the ICU. She seems to be doing a lot better, but I also noticed she is actually missing a leg. Thankfully she will get that back during her next molt.

    E. Murinus aka Skeleton Tarantula - I was a little disappointed to see how tiny her butt is, but I will make sure to plump her up.

My new river army! I got a bunch of these cuties! Pictured below is 4 of the ones who weren't camera shy.

As happy of a day this was to receive my new tarantulas, I received sad news a little bit ago. My local caught tarantula, Phillipe , was found in a death curl in the corner of his home. I knew since he was a mature male that he wouldn't be with us for very long, but I was hoping that he would last till spring so we could find him a girlfriend before his passing. I'm going to find a beautiful spot underneath our large tree in the backyard for him.

Rest in peace my little friend.

    Sorry to hear about Phillipe.

I am fascinated with spiders, yet at the same time I have a fear of them. I enjoyed seeing your photos though.

Congrats on the new T's. I really like those new river slings. Aphonopelmas are one of my favorites. I'm hoping to get some arizona blondes in January.

Happy late birthday to you. I also celebrate my B-Day on New Years Eve. For my B-day I got to buy my wife stuff for her new phone and pay for her dinner :-)

Thank you for the replies everyone.

Tonight apparently isn't my night. I just lost one of the new river babies over something that could of been prevented.

A few of those holes in their little containers were drilled in a bit large and I thought to myself these might be a little to large, but since they are terrestrial and the ventilation holes are all the way on the top of the container I let it slide.

We'll 2 of them got out, one was thankfully running around on the shelf but the other one somehow managed to actually gets it's bum completely stuck in the hole. After a bit of trying to get her to get herself out it was obvious she was really stuck. While trying to help her out she got injured pretty bad and unfortunately had to be put to rest

It is so depressing. I understand that sometimes not everything is going to always make it, but to think that it was over a stupid mistake like that makes it so hard to forgive yourself. I really hate the idea of killing anything or being the cause for it's death.

I mean I guess I might be a little over sensitive, but I dunno .. life is life no matter how small. Though I guess I am a bit extreme, I was laughed at once because I found a black widow in the house and put in a jar and I figure the little guy could probably use a good meal before he was let free again. I put him in the jar and it just killed it and I should of know better that he was probably to stressed to want to eat. Anyway, I ended up actually starting to tear up that it died for no reason. lol, I'm weird that way.

Anyhow, thank you for the birthday wished and Happy belated birthday to you too Don! One thing I thought was always funny about people who celebrate their birthdays on New Years Eve is while majority of the world is partying and celebrating, us New Years Eve babies aren't. I made it my relaxation day and watched movies and tried not to even think of work, lol.

Awww, so sorry to hear about the river sling!! It was an accident though, so I hope you aren't too hard on yourself. However, I can get a bit teary eyed over my pets too, so I understand where you are coming from. I lost one of my original male Hissing roaches and actually cried over it-caught me off guard a bit! But I have shed many tears over lost frogs and I know I will definitely need a tissue or two when I lose my first tarantula. And it takes such a person to be an amazing pet owner, so I would be more worried if you weren't upset!!

However, please forgive my ignorance, but I have never heard of river tarantulas...what exactly are they and how big do they get? Can you handle them? Thanks for letting me ask questions!!

Firstly, Happy Birthday and Congratulations on the new arrivals! Secondly, I've never been a big fan of spiders, they actually kinda creep me out, but the P. ornata there is a beautiful animal! I live in the middle of some prime tarantula habitat here in southwest Missouri (I know Missouri isn't the first place you might expect to find tarantulas, but we have our own species). Every year, thousands of males come out and run around on the highways and country roads here looking for females. Although I've never seen this myself, I've heard that in places around here, there are so many tarantulas on the road that they completely cover the road. Just thought you might like to hear about that. I am sorry to hear about your losses, I have to admit I've cried over a deceased pet too . Don't beat yourself up about it, I'm sure I would have done the same thing.
