    Default Hey from Ontario

I'm Lor, 23, crazy animal lover from Canada lol.

Two days ago I purchased my first red eyed tree frog. I went to a pet store in a nearby town (no pet stores with animals in my town) for cork bark for my bf and I's Tarantulas and I noticed they had red eyed tree frogs. I came home and couldn't stop thinking about them, I had to have one! I took a couple days to research about them and went back on Monday to let one pick me. I say pick me as I don't pick animals (unless one looks very ill or something), I let them choose me. So I had 3 of these lovelies on my hand and the girl at the store is saying how this certain one seems to have a brighter green, so I say "I like to let them pick me." And right after I said that, Orchid jumped right onto my chest! So she came home with me.

I have no idea if she is male or female. I know females grow larger than males and males vocalize. Out of the 3 there (same clutch) she was the biggest. Doesn't mean that makes her female but it gives me enough reason to give her a girl name for now anyways lol! I havn't heard her vocalize but doesn't mean she/he is mature yet either. She measures 2 inches.

I've been reading up on breeding them as that is something I'd really like to do. They seem to be very hard to come by, I've never come across one in a pet store in my entire life until last week. I'll have to wait until there's an un-related clutch coming in to the store, they told me at least a couple weeks.

Anyways, figured I'd join the frog forum to learn more about my new love!

Hi neighbour, and welcome to Frog Forum. RETF are indeed spectacular. You will meet other owners on this board, and you'll be able to share and learn a great deal about your new frog.

Do you have pictures of your setup yet? Your new frog is a nocturnal one, as you may have come across during your research. And she will probably be more timid during the next few days, maybe not eating either. She is just adapting to her new environment.

Looking forward to seeing pics of her new home!

Welcome to the Forum! Orchid is a beautiful frog and you take some great pictures-you should definitely enter the Photo of the Month contest! This is a great forum with lots of spectacular people who share a great passion. I hope you enjoy yourself!

Being a Tarantula lover and keeper myself, I have to ask what and how many T's you have?

Eric: Thanks Eric. No I havn't taken any photos of the terrarium yet but that's a good idea. She is technically in a temporary tank until I have enough $ to buy her a larger one. Since I want to get another, I figure I might as well just get an enclosure that has lots of room for 2. I plan to get this terrarium Zoo Med Naturalistic Terrarium- 18x18x24 - Pre-Thanksgiving Sale - Holiday Sales - PetSmart

So the small terrarium I have right now I didn't put too much work into it because when I upgrade soon we'll have to rip everything out and use it for one of our T's.
Thanks for the tip, I've handled her about 3 times each day for a few miniutes so I'll probably just leave her be for a while in case that stresses her out. I woke her up yesterday and I think I startled her, she peed on me haha.

Jo-Anna: Thanks, that'd be a good idea! I'm trying to figure out the best way to photograph her. Natural light outside is always best for photos but I can't bring her outside lol. I'd like to get some nice shots of her in some plants, nice and natural shots.

For the T's.. lol.. we have 13. I can't remember all their scientific names like my bf can but here goes. Grammostola pulchra, Grammostola rosea, Poecilotheria Metallica, Poecilotheria
Regalis, Poecilotheria Rufilata Xenethis Intermedia, Psalmopoeus Irminia, Ephebopus Murinus, Avicularia Avicularia, Brachypelma Smithi, Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens, Brachypelma Vagans, Brachypelma Auratum
