Well, I think they have lost all interest in breeding. They are just all living together. See pictures below.

I think my next step will be to let the frogs go back under the ground for the summer. I have a 3 ft x 8 ft wood tank that I am going to fill half way with soil/coco fiber mix. It will be outside in the summer heat, but shaded and protected from the any rain. Then, around mid August, I will wake them up and prepare for our fall rains. I will not be giving them any time between waking up and being put together to breed.

I wonder why they were not interested in breeding, I thought you had the perfect setup. Have you had any bad storms in Florida yet? The reason why I am asking that is because tonight we had really bad thunderstorms here in NY and my male finally started calling (only took him 5 years) and tried to mate with an American Bullfrog, he grasped it and everything. Wish I had a mature female now. Good luck in the fall breeding.

That blue is AMAZING on him. I never heard of such color on a Pyxie, much less seen that. Is that just luck of the draw?

Yes, I think the blue is just luck of the draw. You don't see it until it is an adult. I guess you could try breeding for it, but that is not easy as it is.

We have had very, very little spring rains. Just one of those things. There was a huge amount of activity when they were first put together, but I had the females separated. Why? Do to my understanding that the females needed to hear the males calling, for a period of time, to produce the last hormones for egg development. By the time I put them together, full time, the males were over it. All trial and error.

It is great to see them all living together. I make it rain almost every day for several hours. It gives them fresh water and keeps the water from stagnating. Even the pair of pacman, that are in there, have stopped calling. I will be pulling them as well. Back to their tanks. I may try a outdoor set up for that pair too. Will have to see.

maybe toss a big rat in there and let the big males really fight it out maybe that will turn on the females.

Walked out and found one of the biggest males with a female in its mouth!!

I freaked and grabbed him by his back legs and shook him until he let go. She seems find. Luck me.

Make sure you keep your males fed!!! lol I immediately thawed out some feeders and fed them all.

Time to move them to the dirt tank and let them bury themselves for the summer.
