Alright well I got the tank measurments wrong, it is 18x18x24, it's bigger than any of our Tarantula tanks lol!! She'll have a ton of room, plus when I get another it'll be able to join her and still have a lot of space.

I spent almost all my money today (I am a photographer and am currently taking a break, I don't make much sadly, good thing I don't pay the bills!) and I purchased the tank, 3 new fake plants, a brick of soil, a second water dish (which is a tree stump)....

AND I found wax worms! I forget if they can have them as a constant meal instead of crickets, or if they should have both.. I got 10 of them for now anyways, maybe she'll eat one a night (I notice she hasn't eaten 3 crickets per day, more like 1 or 2). Now for wax worms, is there a type of bowl they cannot get out of like the crickets or no? They do have the feeding bowls where worms can't crawl out, so I could invest in one of those if need be.

So my bf Chris and I are working on her new terrarium set up, then I'll introduce it to her tonight when she wakes up!

Wax worms should be fed as a treat food only, and to add weight to a thin-looking frog, so getting ten was perfect for your situation. I would offer her the wax worm on tweezers, since they're slow moving if you don't wiggle them in front of your frog's face, they may not be attracted and try to eat it. My White's won't even budge if the thing isn't on tweezers, they usually turn their back to it if I just drop it in front of them and wait.

You should feed her one wax worm every one or two days until she seems to fatten up, once she's filled out though, wait a month or so before you feed her any more, just to be safe because these worms can cause cataracts if the frog is fed solely on them for a long period of time because of their fat content.

As for a bowl, wax worms won't climb plastic or glass, so a similar one to a cricket bowl would work fine. But remember, wax worms are slow moving and she may not be attracted to it if it's not wiggling around, so tong feeding would be your best bet.

Cheri has Red Eyes, you should ask her if she feeds them worms and how she does it, to see if she can give you some insight into the feeding process of a RETF. My Whites' will eat anything small that moves fast enough to catch their eye, I know RETF are different in that way and usually stop themselves if they feel too full, which a White's will never do, they'll eat until they explode! XD

As for the tank size, and 18x18x24 is 33 gallons, I have one for my big Whites' right now and am going to be adding three more once they are big enough to not be on the menu. You could definitely fit one more Red Eye, maybe two if your frogs seem content after that. But if you buy a new frog, make sure you quarantine it for thirty days to prevent the spread of illness (I said more about this in your other thread about the RETF in the store).

    Hope this has helped you.

Thanks for all the info! I'll definetly keep crickets as her main menu item then. I give them lettuce and grape tomatoes to gut load them. I still need to get some calcium to crush up, I have vitamin D but havn't rolled any in it yet. I kind of failed using the grinder and it went all over the place lol! I might dip the worm in it instead of the cricket, would be easier.

I have tongs so I can try to feed one to her tonight on it when she's awake. If she doesn't eat it, I might put it in a bowl anyways for the night to see if she finds it.

So they're like horses, eat til they're sick lol.

I'm happy I got the largest tank, I think it'll work out the best for when I get her a friend =)

I love that you use the word "when" instead of "if" when you talk about getting another frog. That's a sign that the addiction is catching...>>

You can also buy the commercial gut load for the crickets, one jar/bottle of Fluker's Cricket Quencher isn't that expensive (at least in the states) for how long it'll last you, which is about four months. I haven't switched mine out yet and I got it back in February and I keep six frogs and more than a hundred crickets at a time. But fruits and veggies are good to supplement too, I throw in whatever stuff I have around the house at the time once their gel starts to get low, apples, potatoes, pears, grapes, lettuce (romaine and red leaf), celery, oranges or tangerines, anything I find really. I read to stay away from spinach and bananas for crickets though, not sure why but I feel like it's safe to go without them.

As for the larger tank, Orchid will have a blast, my WTF Bruce Campbell FREAKED OUT when I moved him from the ten gallon long to the 33 gallon tall. XD He didn't come out of hiding to explore for a week he was so overwhelmed. XD But he loves the space now, and climbs all over the place. I imagine for a thin bodied frog like a RETF it would be even more overwhelming, in a good way. More space is always better. ^ ^

White's are really one-of-a-kind frogs, if you one day decide you want to keep another species, I definitely recommend White's. They're a joy! Though they're not as colorful as Red Eyes or some other frogs out there, they make great companions. ^ ^ Just my little shpeal.

Just hold the worm in front of her face for a few minutes and if she doesn't seem interested throw it in a bowl and see what happens. Good plan. XD Update us on if she eats it or not, I do respect the model thin waistline on her but she needs to fatten up!

Omg I get addicted to every animal LOL! 11 cats, 4 horses, 13 tarantulas.. only ONE dog though, they are just too much work haha!

Totally when. Even if I don't breed them, I still want her to have a friend or two as I hear they like to have buddies. I'm still pondering on breeding, I won't want to for quite a while so I can take time and learn as much as I can first. Knowledge is power!

Maybe I'll try that gut load food for them. Do you happen to know if it has any calcium in it too?

LOL he must have thought holy where am I?! Good thing he settled in.

We just finished the tank. I took some photos then put her in. She went right under the most "leafy part" so I'm hoping she's happy there. It's still not completely done. I need some silicone to glue her water dish back up so it's just on the ground for now along with a second dish that is deeper she can soak in. Also I'll be adding another long plant in the other corner. I also put the lame cardboard background on the outside of the tank until I can get a cork bark background - that I have to order from the states and pay a load of duty!

You're lucky you have enough room for all those pets! I have to keep all four of my frog tanks in my room, one thirty gallon tall and one long (which is also pretty tall anyway...) and one ten gallon long and eleven gallon tall! And my room is small.

I have one dog too, but she's tiny small, smaller than most cats! And I love her that way. XD I've been trying to get cats for years but my dad just will NOT budge on that subject, though he's perfectly ok with all the froggies I desire, for some odd reason. >>

Yes, the Fluker's does have calcium. It says right on the bottle, calcium fortified! XD Here;s a link to what they look like, as far as I know there are only subtle differences between the yellow and the blue kind.

    http://www.drsfostersmith.com/images...97-reptile.jpg

There's another Fluker's product called "Orange Cube" and it's a little more expensive, not sure the exact differences though, but I think if you use this stuff you need a separate water source. It looks like........this.

    http://www.drsfostersmith.com/images...98-reptile.jpg

This one claims to be a "complete cricket diet" but like I said I really don't know the differences. The orange Cricket Quencher gel has worked out for me just fine so far, and theirs no dipping or coating to be done! Just throw the food in the place where you keep the crickets 48 hours before you feed them, and they should have eaten enough of the stuff to give Orchid all the vitamins she needs.

But anyway, great tank design, I like that you added more leaf-ages to make her feel more comfortable, that's always good. I would put a few more in there when/if you can afford it though to cover up the space in front, I know you want to see her most of the time but these frogs love to have cover to hide behind all over, and once she feels comfortable enough she will come out to say hello! If you're not adding cover to the front I would suggest more branches or vines for her to climb, just to fill up that empty space in the middle of the tank there.

Also, one quick note. If you plan on putting another frog in there it's good that you have two water bowls because each frog may want to use a separate dish for soaking. In which case, you should create a visual barrier between the bowls, i.e. placing a plant in between them, or one up high and one low, so that the frogs don't always have to look at each other or share if they don't want to. Learned this from Cheri, moderator. ^ ^

I know little about breeding, I have yet to even THINK about doing that with my frogs, but maybe one day, we'll see. It does require some extra equipment and time though, so make sure you plan to do it when you have the means, and once all your frogs are of breeding age of course. ^ ^

I once bought Fluker's "Orange Cube". My crickets never could be bothered with them. Although I know they have worked for some.

I just gotta say this forum rocks lol. I am always happy on here reading what everyone has said and everyone is so nice! I enjoy being on here learning lots!

I live on 8 acres so yes I am lucky! Most of my cats are outdoors but they are all fixed and don't venture onto the highway, they are smart!

My bf Chris and I moved back with my parents because we couldn't afford rent, plus my mum wanted us to live here and not have to pay rent anyways lol. The house is brand new, my dad designed it and had it built. So Chris and I have the whole upstairs to ourselves. Bathroom, bedroom, spare bedroom and a good sized living room with doors - this is where we keep all our critters who need to be in tanks! And keep the cats out. My one indoor cat is just fascinated with the tarantulas! She'll sit infront of their tanks for hours staring lol! Don't want her to knock anything over though - if she got bit she'd die, or she'd eat one of the critters! It also helps it's on the south side of the house and the warmest room in the house!

I think I will just get that for the crickets. It seems more simple than to dust them in calcium/vitamin d.

I am going to keep the front/door free of plants, but I'd like to work up the sides with more long ones so 3 sides will keep her feeling hidden. Another reason I left the background up, so she doesn't see out that side.

Good idea for separating the water bowls, they could end up having a stressful staring contest LOL! I plan to glue the leaf bowl up above the pink orchid plant xD Then I can move the other to the other side of the tank. I just want some ground space to put a bowl of crickets at night.

I read up a bit on breeding and it seems fairly complicated and lots of items needed for it. I may even end up with 2 of the same sex! I don't think Orchid is even mature yet. I still assume she is female but doesn't mean she is. Since she's 2 inches, if she isn't mature she still may grow and end up female.

Yeah I don't have much experience with cricket quencher yet, that's why I gave her choices. I never really trusted the orange cube for reasons unknown to myself, so thanks for adding your input about it. I would just go with the gel, it lasts forever for the price and you can always add veggies and fruits for extra vitamins and minerals!

I'm glad you're enjoying your time here, I know I have these past three months! I was totally adverse to social networking before I joined this site, and now it has me turned around about a few of the issues I had before. ^ ^ I was shocked too that everyone was so nice, it's really easy to make friends and get good information.

Can I come out and visit some time? Maybe I could bring all my frogs and live in your critter room. Haha just joking of course.

That sounds amazing, I wish I had all that room for my precious babies. Some people are just lucky! You all have more space out there in Canada anyway.

You never really know the sex until you start to notice the signs, like croaking, nuptial pads, etc. Keep in mind that the females are always bigger though, so if you know how old she is and get her alongside a male of the same age, it'll be easy to tell if she's a girl after all.

Check out some pictures of my Phyllomedusa Tomopterna on my profile, you can see the frogs next to each other in one of the pictures and see how much bigger the female is than the male. I believe the female Red Eyes get to about 2 1/2 inches, so if she gets that big, chances are she's female. ^ ^

Looking at the body shape and snout I am pretty confident that you have a female.

I know, I get bored and sit on the internet but have nothing to do but sit on facebook and deviant art. I like being on here!

Sure come out and visit lol! I used to live in a smaller house and we didn't have much room for critters, but I still had lots all the time lol. Then the apartment Chris and I were in wasn't very big either. We had all the T's in the bedroom lol.

I figure if Orchid is a male, being 2 inches "she" should almost be mature, so I may hear croaking soon. But so far I havn't heard anything. I read males get up to 2 1/4 inch and females get up to 3 inches. I hope she's female, just because I treat her as if she is LOL! Orchid is a pretty name, but not quite suiting for a boy. If she ended up being a male I was going to re name Orchid to Haiku, but I don't know if I could even do that now, might be hard to change her name after I know her as Orchid. But I'm hoping Orchid is female, then I hope to end up with a male and name him Haiku!
