She is just the cutest! I had to share
Just so you all know, these photos are edited a bit. I am still struggling with proper lighting for her and since I can't take her outside for the best light, I have to find a spot around the house somewhere. I made her a bit more vibrant.
Beautiful photos...Just becareful not to stress her out too much with all the pictures. Give her time to settle in to her new home.
This probably took me 3 miniutes lol. I am quick! I'm going to have to re do her tank though, the glue isn't holding on the cork bark, blah. Need to find something good to stick her in when I do that. She's getting more used to it here now. I'm pretty sure she ate 2 crickets last night.
Great pictures, but I do agree with Cheri. Try to limit holding and photo shoots, at least at first. Thanks for sharing though, the pictures are good, I couldn't even tell they were edited.
How long will the remodel take? If only a few hours she'd be ok in a critter keeper with some damp paper towels to shield her from what's going on around her as she tries to sleep.

That's the only time she's been out in the last couple days.
They're not supposed to look like they are editedBut I didn't want anyone thinking she's abnormally colourful lol.
I don't have a critter keeper... I pondered on using some kinda plastic dish with a lid and making some holes or screen in it. I am not entirely sure on how long remodeling will take, but I'm just going to leave the cork bark out and use some new big leaf plants so I don't assume it'll take too long. Has to wait til Sunday though, that's the only day I can go 40 mins to the pet store lol. Also going to see if I can find her wax worms!
Nice pictures, the first one is my favorite, though I'm also quite fond of the stretched out pose in #7.
You owe her waxworms as a modelling fee
What kind of glue did you use for the cork bark? You can use silicone instead, it has no problems holding bark to glass. You can get clear aquarium safe stuff at Home Hardware for ~$4 but it needs a caulking gun to go with it. You'd need to keep her out of the viv for at least 24 hours though, preferably 48, if you go with silicone. Or you could silicone a magnet to the back of the bark, then use another magnet on the outside to hold it in place (not too strong a magnet, or you risk smashing the glass). They sell premade water dishes and ledges like this. This way you can do the siliconing outside the viv, and be able to move it around afterwards (for better/different photo ops).
Thanks =)
This is still technically her temporary tank, I'm buying her a bigger one but this is all I could afford the day I bought her. So I won't be doing anymore glueing work on this one, since we'll be using it for a tarantula after I switch her. My bf mentioned to use silicone, but he said it'd have to dry for a few days, but I didn't think DAYS.. maybe like you said 24-48 hours. My dad has a gun for it, he does pretty much everything around the house. Just any type of silicone alright? Cause I'm sure we have some. It's because I spray so much the glue didn't end up holding.
Love the photos.... since I have dumpy's here I'm always amazed at how tiny the RTFs are.
Thanks. I'm sure I'd be amazed how huge they are!
I am still amazed though that she is REAL! I showed her to my dad yesterday (who didn't know I got one lol) and he said "It's not moving, is it even real?" Sometimes I look at her and think, "Nah, just fake, too pretty and exotic to be in my hand in real life." But nope!
After 24 hours a freshly built tank can be tested for water fastness, so the silicone is mostly cured, but it can still stink at this point (like vinegar). It depends on the ventilation, but I think 48 hours is usually sufficient, more never hurts. Just make sure it doesn't smell anymore.
I've read GE silicone II is safe in dry environments and have seen many people use it safely for years but I've also seen warnings about using anything that says it's mildew resistant so I never know what to believe. I stay on the safe side and have only used the clear Home Hardware brand labeled "aquarium safe". It also happens to be one of the cheapest![]()
Great I'll look for that, thanks!
OMG. Great pictures.I also want retf. But in turkey i don't find them.![]()
She is indeed beautiful, Lor. I'm glad you are taking such passion in her wellbeing. And quite understandably, in wanting to show her off. She'll be very happy with you.
kiralikceset: That sucks you can't get them there!
clownonfire: Thanks, I care about every animal's well being. I don't know anyone who loves and cares about animals as much as I do lol. I'm sure those people are out there, I just don't know any in person.. I had 16 cats and spayed and neutered every single one of them. A few found homes, I'm down to 11.
I'm heading up to the pet stores in Sarnia today (we only have Pet Value in my town and there's nothing exciting there). I made some $ yesterday selling some of my horse tack I don't use, so I can afford to get Orchid her new tank! I'm just not sure if I'm going to go with the 12x12x18 or the 12x12x24. I did want to get the larger size, but it's $108. I can afford it, but I wouldn't have much left over for other things I want to get her as well (wax worms, new plants, a fogger, heat pad, a second water dish).
If you hypathetically only had enough funds for a couple items what would you pick up first? Fogger or heat pad? I do have a night glo lamp that adds a bit of heat, but I also mist constantly lol. And thoughts on what size tank please! I'll be leaving in a couple hours.
I think u shold to buy exo terra mansoon.fogger is also nice with waterfall
Lor, if I were you, I would go for the 12*12*24. The higher your tank will be, the happier your frog will be. That is the most important factor right now: height. So in my opinion, this is where mostly your money should be invested. As for the fogger, I love them (actually, I love the ZooMed Repti Fogger - the Exo-Terra Fogger is absolute rubbish and you should stay away). But it is a nice to have, really. Not necessary. Get a $10 mister at Home Depot in the Garden section, and mist once or twice a day and it will do the trick. There is no need to invest in a fogger. Same with the heat pad. We spoke about it yesterday, but it's not really necessary. I have an American Green Treefrog and a Big-Eyed Tree frog, and I don't have any heat pads in any of their enclosures, and I live not too far away from you in cold Montreal.
I have the monsoon for my thumbnail frogs and for my soon-to-arrive P. terribilis, but not necessary in your treefrog enclosure. Again, go with the good old fashion hand misting.
So, in a nutshell: A high tank, some climbing branches or apparatus for your frog, plants, lots of them (you can get some at Home Depot ago, no need to go fancy, a basic philodendron will provide lots of leafage for little)... Crickets, mealworms occasionally (they are hard to digest) and lots of love, a fresh bowl of water changed daily, and you have a happy frog! If you put more plants, some Repti Glo 2.0 during daytime, and voilą!
Thank you for your imput! I watched videos of both foggers and people said they did like the exo terra one. That is what I was going to get, it can work in as little as 2 inches of water. I don't have any space to put a fogger beside the tank as well. But good thing it's not a big deal to not have one. I guess I'll go with the large tank and a bunch of new plants.
I actually would like to try some real plants (however they died with our tarantulas) but I am not sure what kinds are best to get. Most likely won't try them until summer though when I can find them around to buy.
Honestly, foggers can be practical if you are going on vacations, but so not necessary. For plants, some good old philodendron. Hardy as hell, and will thrive in your enclosure.
Enjoy the shopping, and looking forward to seeing what you got!
I would invest in the largest possible enclosure, fancy toys like foggers and pretty water dishes can be added later as funds allow. The frogs don't really care what their enclosure looks like but they will appreciate all the space you can give them.
