Thread: Um... hi. ):

    Default Um... hi. ):

I'm actually signing up on this site because I have a problem. In the picture below is one of my froggies. This one is deceased along with all of it's siblings excluding one (and the tadpoles I released when the eggs hatched)

My problem is that whenever they start to go through the evolution, they suddenly die. It usually happens around halfway through the "tail dissolving" process. The last time I had tadpoles their tail didn't dissolve until after they started breathing air. But these ones never start to breathe air. I have put various sticks and other floating object for them to climb on in the cage but it never happens.

Because they haven't finished their evolution I'm not sure what kind they are. I found them in Northern Maine after the snow melted in a ditch. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong and how I can save the last one?

Sounds like they are drowning. Read the Gray Tree Frog article - it tells you what to do when they start to metamorphose.

*runs like a maniac and proceeds to dump out some water and set the aquarium on a slope*

Ty very much. I hope it works. Otherwise I'll be out of froggies and my cricket farm will be for naught. >_>! "" <--- This message board has some interesting emoticons.

How deep was the water where it was?

I had the aquarium tilted so that one end was fairly deep (deeper then he was. Maybe twice his height?) and one end had little to no water.

When I went to bed he was sitting in the shallow end with his head out of the water so I figured if something happened he knew the way out.

But in the morning I awoke to find him dead in the deeper end.

I think it may have been a spring peeper. Getting the water to be shallow is a little hard for something that small. D: I'm considering trying a White's Tree Frog instead but I'm having a hard time finding a buyer.

That water was too deep - you want it so he can stick his head out while still being able to touch the bottom with his front limbs.

XD That's actually a lot better for me. October=Much more notice. (1-2 days is not a lot of notice to drive like crazy) And that's also closer to where I live than Portland.

*clears out schedule for the event* Excellent. 90% chance I'm going. I doubt I'd recognize any of you if I saw you there though. (Not that that's a problem.)

I am more likely to be selling than buying anything - I am at capacity. If anything I need to get rid of some things.

I wasn't really proposing to buy a table and sell things there, rather just stating I wouldn't be attending shows like that to purchase animals.
