    Default Greetings!

Hi, my name is Alli and I've been keeping frogs for almost 5 years. I have about 60 Oriental Fire Bellied Toads, 3 Gray Tree Frogs, 1 USA Green Tree Frog and 1 Japanese Tree Frog.

I joined this forum because a google search revealed someone on this forum with Japanese Tree Frogs and I would dearly love to get my male some company... and I can't seem to find any anywhere!!

Hi Kurt, thanks for the welcome!

No, I'm not really a breeder. I started out with 3 fbt's, 2 of those were male and I was waiting to see about the 3rd when s/he had some sort of problem... my vet thinks it was a stroke or some form of brain injury (I'd only had them for a week!)... I tend to think of it as a female as 'she' has never made a sound.

I have to keep her in a seperate enclosure as she doesn't swim, she thrashes about and turns over and over, it's quite upsetting to watch, so she has nothing more than 2cm of water. Her head is constantly tilted to one side and she walks round in circles. She doesn't appear to be distressed (unless she's in deep water) and she's survived for 5 years, so I call her my 'special needs' toad!

I thought she seemed a bit lonely, so I went out and got 3 more hoping that I'd picked out some females to keep her company. After they'd done their time in quarantine I put them in with the 2 males. Luckily 2 were female but I couldn't see which 2 and by the time I figured it out, I had loads of spawn. I did raise about 260 tadpoles, but sadly a fair few died during metamorphosis and as young toadlets. I have also given some away to a friend. Which still leaves me with loads!! I have them separated into males and females now, so no more spawn..... hopefully!!

I would like to try and breed the Japanese, because they don't seem to be readily available in my part of the UK, but I would need to get a female first!! I'm just hoping that the recent problems in Japan haven't wiped the native population out..... not that I'd be looking for a WC one.
