I am starting up an ADF tank and also have two omnivorous gourami's and a betta so i was thinking it may be a good idea to start a small worm farm with just about 50 worms and also using it for composting what my hamsters dont eat. I was wondering if this was a good idea. Or even worth it. And would it benefit my pets? Has anyone done this? What would i need? I looked up bins to use but the worm types are confusing me. and also how to start it. I just need a simple version I guess.
I've thaught about the same thing for my WTF. But it seems nightcrawlers don't reproduce very well. But red wigglers do give allot of babies and are of suitable size fir what you're feeding. Start with clean (parasite free) adults and give them kitchen scraps, I've heard to not mix it in, just top with 1/2 inch of soil. And feed on one half of your cooler (perfect housing) so u alternate locations to avoid mixing. If u mix organics in it can cause rot and kill your stock. Wigglers also don't require cooling season like crawlers. good luck, within 6 months you should have a good amount to share--- LOL
Try google, tons of info
i already googled I just wanted to know others options. I was going to get a tall plastic bin. I'll look at red wigglers and black worms
they are the perfect food. Start with choosing a species that fits your needs, and if u have a basement you can cool them, which I don't have. Good luck!! Let us know too!! I've heard it's easier than crickets, and those are some breeders!!
my mom just has an apartment and hopefully soon I'll have my own apartment but a closet should be cool. I dont know when I'll have it up I'm broke and dont have anything for it yet.
