U can use sticks that are dry rotted, barkless, or sun bleached. Bake fir an hour at 200•, microwave 10 min, or soak in bleach water, dry, then reg water overnight. I use an ash tray for a water bowl for my baby, and got real plants fir 2$ each at florist and broms fir 3$ at Walmart. You can go pick your own rock for a false bottom, and plant it. Every 2-3 months, take it all out and clean. If u do a real false bottom and plants and dirt, u don't have to do a compete tear down. Just pick up poops that don't land in the plants. I have no hummidity problems with my 33 gal, but my 10 gal for opal would drop crazy (30%) every couple hours. So I had to plant the bottom to keep it stable. I only did half of it so I could mop up extra moisture from that one side. I mounded charcoal I had left over from a fish tank, like 2" of that, screen, then dirt, and sphagam and rocks on top.
