Hello everybody,
I need some help with my sick African Clawed Frog. A few days ago, he started floating at the top a little on one side. I think he is still eating. He is maybe a little bloated. He still swims around a little bit, but mainly remains at the top. Most times I will catch the female up floating by him, almost like she is comforting him. I also noticed that there is some pieces of skin hanging off of him as well. I have had this pair of frogs for about 10 years now and never had any problems...I am very scared and sick about it, can anybody help me??
Thanks much!![]()
I am sorry to hear about your frog. Bloating seems to be a common problem affecting clawed frogs these days. I suggest isolating the frog and treating it with Maracyn II® and Maracyn Plus. These are commonly used in the treatment of "sudden bloat". The cause is a bacterial infection and generally fatal if not treated quickly. In this kind of bloat, the symptoms occur quickly and the frog appears bloated and swimming at the surface of the water. Good luck and hope all goes well.
I also suggest taking the frog to the vet for an expert opinion.
