    Default Best amphibian for a 12 x 12 terrarium?

Hi! I'm new here and just starting to research amphibians. I have a 12 x 12 x 12 ZooMed terrarium that I've been staring at trying to figure out what to do with it.

What are some good suggestions or what would you do with that sized tank? I like salamanders and all types of frogs and toads and just can't decide. The store by us had Bumble Bee Walking Toads which are really cool!

Some basic info, the room's winter temps range between 68-72 degrees at night and 75-78 during the day. We don't have A/C so the summer temps can get significantly higher (85-90+ depending on the day). I'm prepared to add heat (in the winter) or light depending on the animal.

    Thanks for the help!

A 12" cube is too small to be a long-term home for any frog.

I just got a pair of bumblebee walking toads for my 12x12x12.. I know many people have said that nothing fits in there.I thought so too for a long time, but when I asked on here if a pair would be okay in one, I was told it would be great. The guidelines for them on the care sheet here are 2.5 gal per toad, and the 12x12x12 is about 7 gallons.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll just build this one with only plants for practice and get a bigger terrarium later. I wanted to incorporate a water feature of some kind and that will probably take up most of the floor space.

Jessica, I agree with Sierra. A cube is small, but a pair of bumblebee walking toad could do really well in it. Again it all depends how you will build it! But I couldn't see why it wouldn't work out.

Thanks, maybe I'll build it with them in mind .

I was also concerned about how hot the room can get. If I decide to try bumble bees is that too hot?

Like any other type of enclosures you will have, you will need to monitor your tank's temperature and humidity... Here's a great article on the BBWT. I love mine, they are wonderful little creatures.

I've read that a few times, lol. It is a great article. He mentions occasional temps in the low 90's are not bad but I was wondering if any one had other experiences with higher temps. I guess if we get a heat wave I can move the tank to the family room or basement.

I think I'll set the terrarium up and them go from there.
