Hi Nikki, sorry you had to join the forum under such circumstances but it's nice to meet you.

It sounds to me by the scab that your frog has a "noserub". This is what happens when your frog attempts to escape the tank and presses and rubs his nose against the glass or screen top to try and get out. You should post pictures though, because this is not a definitive answer and you could have a different problem on your hands. If it IS a noserub, and it might not be, you can treat with neosporin if you must. If you do get the kind WITHOUT PAIN RELIEF as this will kill your frog. Do not attempt to use any other chemicals either, neosporin is the only human type over the counter antibacterial ointment I have ever and will ever use. Just apply a little to the affected area with a QTip every night after the frog wakes up. Also, this treatment is not intended for long term use and is supposed to prevent an infection, nothing else. It may heal faster with use of neosporin, but as soon as you see the wound beginning to close, stop using it, I don't know the long term effects. When my White's Tree Frog had an open wound on his leg I used neosporin for three days total and they healed up without incident. Try not to get the ointment on your frog's nostrils when you apply it too, as I don't know what could happen if they breathe it in.

How big is the enclosure you have him in? Also post your exact temps and humidity, what substrate you're using, and preferably a picture of the set up just in case there's a problem with that. And do you know if the frog is wild caught or captive bred? This could be a determining factor in what is wrong.

I hope this helps, if you use the neosporin make sure to follow the guidelines I've put up and remember: NO PAIN RELIEF, this will KILL YOUR FROG.

hey thank you soooo much for the advice ...i also thought about what you said with the whole trying to escape thing and he does that quite often i seen him walking around the top pushing with his legs its quite funny but maybe it is that but i will try the neosporin thing tho im going to clean his tank tomorrow ...well the tank is actually an exo terra tank the dimensions are (hold let me check lol ).....ok the box says 12"x12"x18" the humidity i try my best to keep between 90 and 100 but its usually between 80 and 90 % the temp in the day time is between 75 and 85 but at night it kinda drops between 65 and aroung 72 because i live in a basement and it gets cold but i also have a heating lamp ...the frog is captive bred from what the lady at bigappleherp told me im also using coconut fiber it brought it in the tank because i bought the whole set it was about 110$ it brought the substrate the fake plants the water dish the gauges and etc. im going to take some pics now and post them where do i post them tho ????

First of all your humidity is WAY too high, lower it as fast as you can. Ideal Red Eye humidity is between 60-70%, at 80-100% you're creating an area that germs will definitely breed in, this can lead to increased risk of infection and the opportunity for bacteria to attach itself to the environment. Lower your humidity as fast as you can, this is probably causing your frog undue discomfort and could be the reason why it is trying to escape it's enclosure. Your temperature is just a bit high, try to keep it between 78-82 degrees F in the day time and allow a drop to about 71 or a bit lower at night, this is most comfortable for Red Eyes.

Of you make an album in your profile you can post the pictures there, copy the"bbcode" for the image that shows up underneath the picture when you upload it, and paste it into your next post in this thread. This might be a little hard to understand, but if you can get them into your album on your profile, people will be able to look at them.

The substrate is fine as long as it is not too damp. Did you provide places for your frog to hide while it sleeps? This could be another factor adding to it's stress.

Welcome to the forum Nikki. Sounds like Kisa is giving you some good advice. When you get a chance post some pictures and maybe we can give you a few pointers. Red Eyes are my favorite tree frogs.

Just looked at your pics in your album. You definately should add some more plants for cover. Especially large leafed plants...pothos is good but there are many others. Take a look at the indoor plant section of you local Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes. Rinse the plants completely before putting them into your viv including discarding all the original soil the plant came with and rinse the roots. Check out the care article on the left about building a dart frog terrarium. In that article it talks about how to properly set up a drainage layer for the plants to stay healthy. Live plants are a good way to maintain the proper humidity and they also provide for a more natural environment for the frog. Give your frog as many branches and large leaves as you can. This will help him to acclimate better and eventually he'll stop trying to escape.
