Default Idea for the 40 gal

I have been wanting an amphibian tank for a while. Right now I am setting up my simple ten gallon planted tank for three ADF but down the road after my ancient kissing gourami has passed would it be ok to divide the 40 long tank down the middle and put an axolotl on one side and two ACF on the other? They have the same temperature requirements and filtration needs Other than the ACF not liking vibration but the tank will have 80 gal of filtration on it. Just wondering if i should even consider this idea. They are both very sensitive to water quality so the water would have to be pristine. Also I Love watching my Gourami and he's doing great its just every time i look at that tank I think about converting it lol. I've looked at the needs and feeding of each and down the road i'd love it. And I promise this isnt an ask and go do it in spite of what people say. if need be i will set up the forty for the ACF and a seperate tank for the axolotl I just though this idea would be cool

The only way I would even consider doing something like this with amphibians is by installing a piece of black glass siliconed in place so the 2 sides are completely seperate aquariums. I just think mixing amphibians is a disaster waiting to happen. If that is something you are interested in doing then I would say choose one species only.

I was also thinking of doing an opaque solid panel down the middle. The reason for dividing it is t keep from mixing species ... I may turn the forty into an angel tank and get a 30 for each the axolotl and the ADF's

Would a 50 gal HOB filter be ok for two ACF?
And a thirty in tank with the intake covered so it cant harm gills be ok for the axolotl?
We'll have to see what space and finances allow me.

Personally, I'd rather under stock than over filter where anphibians are concerned. I assume you are considering an Aquaclear type filter? That will have the inhabitants pinned to the wall.
I am still partial to air driven filters in amphibian setups . They work just fine, are easy to clean/service, are cheap, don't malfunction, don't produce extra heat, they enable you to limit the size and amount of penetrations in the lid, and produce little to no current. You never hear stories about a sponge filter killing a frog or newt...

Actually I was going to take the marineland 250 from my forty gal for the frogs. I always over filter ... Plus I read to do at least double filtration with ACF to control waste. Heck I could Just leave the 40 with its filtration and put in the frogs. I dont know I'll figure it out ... I have lots of options.

I had 2 clawed frogs and 1 axolotl in the same tank. But when the axolotl got twice the size of the clawed frogs he became too big for the tank they where in, so then I putted him in the adult tank. I never had problems with this combination. When they are small it is possible but when they get big the axolotl will eat the clawed frog or if you have big clawed frogs, then they will try to eat the axolotl.
So keeping them separate is better.

Over filtration in the case of the two animals mentioned will not benefit you as much as proper maintainance will. However the Marineland 250 is by no means over filtering a 40 gallon. The package may say the filter is rated for a certain size, but the ratings are baked. 250 gallons per hour pre-media is not too much for a 40 gallon. Your idea of double filtration and mine are off a bit.
