Hi all,
How's everyone. Enough small talk.
I have started revamping a pretty rundown tank that I got from a pet supplier store. These few photos is how I got it. At this point, all the blue paint has been scraped off, and the tank has been cleaned. I have also removed the glass separating the drain from the tank (picture 2), and used it to cover the drain hole (picture 3), using GE SCS1200 Specialty Silicone.
I will build a typical foam/Silicone II/Substrate backdrop, as it's the technique that I know best, and I do not want to test drive another technique on this tank... I'm goal oriented with this one, and want to make sure the end product is stellar (no pressure on myself). So no coark/clay backdrop. I'll try that on the second 29 gallon we have in stock.
Sara suggested a waterfall in the 50 gallon tank, and I like the idea. So we got three different Circulation Pumps, the ReptiFlo 200, 250 and 350 (one will work, right?) Questions:
1. Has anyone built one in a tank that will have a drainage layer.
2. Do you have a thread I can read?
3. Better yet, as I can't follow instructions, is there pictures I can see? Yes, I like images.
I'll post more pictures along the way. We have a nice design for this one, with nice pieces of wood, and great plants in mind, and a small pond area... It will end up being for my terribs once they need to be transferred from the 29 g to a bigger enclosure.
Thanks, and here goes another one...
Eric
grrit did a great first build with false bottom and waterfall
Also, here is Mikes with nice pics of how he did a falso bottom with water feature.

Bet it was loads of fun removing the paint.

I will re-read both threads... Both of these vivs are just wonderful. Thanks, Don and Ginger.
As for the paint.... Man... The last glass, which is the one where the backdrop will be covering, I just let loose. And it chipped very small pieces of glass. It wasn't so hard as it was long... and quite a few blades lost their lives for the greater cause.
LOL...Eric, you really have caught the frog bug.![]()
Yeah.... I was thoroughly looking for something to invest in which would make me neglect my kids, and voilà!
I seriously do, Cheri... And I'm hoping to fill these new vivs with Orange and Mint terribs, each in their own enclosures, of course.
Sara and I spoke about re-organizing our place, and using our largest room as a studio for her, and the other half as a frog room... Did someone say breeding?
E.
I know the feeling. I even gave up my drums.... which I rarely played over the last two years.. and have more frogs and vivs on my mind.
I am so glad 20 longs only cost 25 bucks :-)

Geez Don, where are you getting your 20 longs? At all the local pet shops around here they're $60 or more!!! It's ridiculous! D<
I can't wait to see what you do with your vivs Eric, I'll definitely be watching this thread closely. >>

Local pet store does tanks at cost. No tops, just the tank.

Craigslist!! And not all of them are a mess like the 50G I just got... This was more of a challenge. But you will find some really decent prices on there...

Oh Eric. What are we going to do? Is there a 12-step program to get over the frog addiction?
I can't wait for updates on your tanks.

Thanks Elaine. I'll post updates weekly. This will be a long one. Lots of work on it. But I'm definitely looking forward to the challenges. My son Theo (almost 7) wants to participate on this one too (it's this or we take his closet - his room- away). Looking forward to seeing him more involved in this. Perhaps he will ask for frogs at Christmas, then forget about his new frog/gift, and make it mine...![]()
How do you think I got into frogs? My two firebellies "were" Lacey's
pets. Yeah and don't think about asking another frog addict if you should hold off before getting more frogs. I was at LLL reptile and texted Elaine to ask her if I should get more frogs or if I should wait and she said" do it...do it". Now I have three more frogs. This 12 step program is not working.
