    Default How Many...REALLY? >>

Hey guys, just a quick inquiry from me.

I have a 33 gallon Exo Terra (18x18x24) with one just about full grown White's in there (he's about 3.5 inches) and am waiting for my other White's (a baby blue phase who is only about 1.5 inches now) to get big enough to introduce him to the main tank. Right now he's in a small ten gallon.

The other day I was at Petsmart (following up an application, I feel like that place could really benefit from someone with actual knowledge about amphibians, I might be able to prevent future sick frogs coming from that store and into people's homes...) and I saw a baby White's they've had for quite a while and it got me pining again.

The question is...how many White's do you think could fit, tops, in my 33 gallon tall? Rule of thumb says I shouldn't go more than two, but is it unethical to maybe get another baby to raise and introduce him later too? This of course would be after I introduce Mr. Wayne (baby).

The real question is, is 33 gallons too small for three full grown White's?

    Thanks guys! All opinions welcome.

Hey Kisa, I think once they get to about 5 inch in size, then 2 would be the vivs limit. I have 4 in mine right now but none are that big yet, and all have tons of room to roam and find places to be asleep on their own.

I say this because If they get as big as one I saw at a local pet shop, and that poor guy was to big to climb anything and stayed on the substrate all the time.

If Mine get that big then they are gonna visit the gym and a new 40 breeder.

I beleive like Don in a way. Rule of thumb is based on 4 and 5" frogs. But what if they stay below 4 inches? Isn't there a way to figure frogs by inch per gallon

Now this is just my opinion and how I keep frogs and why. If I was in your situation with your frogs than I would stick with the two Whites and they could grow comfortably in the 33 gal. Then as soon as the baby was big enough to move into the 33 gallon I would start designing the 10 gallon. I don't know maybe go vertical and get a Red Eye Leaf Frog or perhaps stay horizontal and get a couple of bumble bee darts. I like variety but also do try to limit the number of mouthes to feed. That's why most of my frogs I keep in pairs. Again this is just how I do it...I like to experience different types of frogs.

@ Don: That's exactly my fear...I wish Bruce Campbell would stay the size he is now forever, it would make things so much easier. If they BOTH get to 4 or 5 inches than I have no idea what to do, that would be insanity. XD It would be really sad to see three of them all cooped up in a viv that was too small for them though, that would break my heart.

Does anyone know at what age they stop growing? That would be a big help in my case...

@ Ginger: That's what I was going for with this thread. What if Bruce Campbell has stopped growing and Bruce Wayne won't reach five inches either? Then I could maybe fit some more frogs...? Idk.

@ Cheri: That's another option I have. I know for sure I want to get a pair of darts in the future, maybe the ten gallon I have would be perfect if I could put aside the time to build it into a vertical tank...it's something to think about. Don't even get me started on my chameleon...>> I want a Jackson's SOOO bad...but I'm definitely going to have to wait on that.

My plan for the ten gallon I have now was to keep it empty as a quarantine tank, just in case one of my frogs becomes ill or I get another I need to keep away from the others before I introduce it. For the darts (some time in the far future unfortunately >>) I was going to get a neat 12x12x12 and just make it super cool for them, similar to what Eric has is darts in (I think his is a 12x12x12...not sure). But then again I would sort of have a free tank sitting there unused, especially if my frogs stay healthy and happy...and I always have kritter keepers I can throw them in if they get sick (though it would be so sad to have to put one of the White's in the size Critter keeper I have while he was sick... )...I don't know I guess it's a debate I have to face.

Either way, if I get a pair of darts it won't be until a while down the road...a year or so I think (it seems to far away now.) Unless I get that job I'm hoping for, then I might be able to afford them sooner.
