Hi,

I just joined the site today , I have a few amphibians that like to keep me busy!! I have 4 fire bellied toads, 1 fire bellied newt, 1 red spotted newt, 1 golden glider frog and 1 American green tree frog. Untill recently I also had 2 whites tree frogs that I lost due to an evil parasite.

I am getting some baby amazon milk frogs on tuesday which i'm really excited about!

My set ups are fairly common i suppose! I have a semi aquatic tank for the toads and newts and a viv full of climbling vines, a large tree root and a water fall for the frogs. I have been researching natural terrirums but i'm a bit worried about the risk of contamination of the natural products . Having just lost 2 of my little guys i'm pretty nrevous of any parasites etc but I have been reading the first aid bit on here about panacur C so i will try that!

Can i ask your opinion on something please? What do you think of the use of spaghnam moss in the frogs viv?

If you are mixing different species of frogs in a tank, that can explain the problems you've been having. Frogs secret toxins that are not so great for the other frogs. In a tank, it's very easy for those to build up and cause stress and even disease. A lot of times, you won't even know until it's too late (you end up with dead frogs or frogs so sick you aren't able to do anything for them). I would suggest splitting them up.

I have used spaghnam moss before, but I have stopped. I have heard of so many people having frogs swallowing the moss, and that causes a lot of problems. I rather not risk it.

Thank you for your advice! The baby whites were not put in with the golden glider and the green tree frog, the vet said it was just one of those things that probably came from the crickets, or their mother although that didnt stop me being paranoid that I did something wrong. I know that its not the best thing to mix the species but the golden and green frog have been together for over 2 years now, they have both been checked and are fine!

I think I will change to eco earth as it seems to be quite commonly used and fairly safe. I am doing their viv up at the moment.

A great collection of frogs you have. Congrats on your Milk frogs, love them. In regards to the Moss, Ive been using it for my frogs for 6 years and Ive never had a problem with it. I love it. In regards to frogs swallowing it, I also have heard that but never experienced it. I put a layer of the sphagnum moss down and then on top of that I put the carpet type moss which cant be consumed. I put this up in another thread but this gives you an idea what I find good in my enclosure. I really like the natural pretty look it creates as well as it lasts for a very long time.
