MY ADF are eating and destroying my new plant.

I read that ADF do not eat or destroy live plants. I bought a new anubias nana plant grown on driftwood so it is a little expensive. In less than a week they have chewed off 80% of the leaves and even chewed other leaves. At first I did not believe it until I saw it first hand today. Any other people having similar issues?

When frogs are not used to having live plants, they can take a rather dumb approach to them.
These are not the most intelligent species and on top of that they are nearly blind. They react to shadows and movement in the water - - so they are sitting there, and something slightly wiggles above their head (leaf moving in the water) and they think "OH! Lucky Me! Food! Right there! I can get it! " then SNAP! mouth full of leaf, it is not coming off easy so they think the fish is resisting so they tug until what ever they are holding is "theres". Then, now that it is in their mouth, they try and eat it and half the time they probably spew up the ripped up leaf.

This is why it is very important to be careful about what decor and substrate you have - many a little frog has died from eating gravel or think/rough sand!

Interesting, Anubias are normally not eaten by fish because leaves are tough and they taste bad. I did had a blue crayfish that would cut the leaves at the stems and had to remove them from it's tank. Jenna's post makes a lot of sense and would recommend removing plant from their tank or risk losing it.

I think I did lose that plant since there is only one leaf left. It is funny since they were originally in a very small tank with a bamboo shoot. I also have another plant in there that is pretty tall and they rest there in the leaves all the time...they leave the bamboo and other tall plant alone.
